Se expone los desafíos que ha de afrontarse en la Ingeniería en Diseño Industrial y Desarrollo de Productos los próximos años. La continua aceleración que los avances tecnológicos están introduciendo en el desarrollo de nuevos productos y servicios de mayor complejidad. Horvath continua con una puesta en contexto de los sistemas ciber-físicos (Cyber Physical Systems, CPS) para mencionar las tecnologías que permiten la confluencia de los entornos virtuales y reales.
