KRUOPAS Interest in Lithuanian language, literature, ir folklore history In the first a. half of the 19th century, the efforts to revive the Lithuanian language and ir create ja fictional, scientific, pedagogical ir literature of a different kind encouraged the cultural actors of the time to pay great attention to the į development and standardization of the Lithuanian literary language. Many jų (D. Poška, S. Stanevičius, S. Daukantas, Nezabitauskas, K. Uvainis etc.) L. ir They compiled Lithuanian language dictionaries, wrote grammar, thereby trying to contribute to the enrichment and improvement of Lithuanian literary language, to the necessary measures for the development of Lithuanian language and preparation for learning. One of the most iš productive to dictionaries of the period is D. Sutkevičius. About life jo activity the ir following knowledge is provided: born 1782 m. In the Raseiniai district. About 1801—1803 m. studied physics Vilnius University (already before 1803 m. reform)’. From 1803 m. The Dominican School of II Merkinė kl. teacher, 1810— 1812 m. the headmaster of that school. 1812—1814 m. Vice-President of the College of California. 1807 m. "Dominican Schools of Antiquities". 1818 m. there same teacher of literature, socius 1819 m. officii. 1821-1823 m. Prior of Žemaičių Kalvarija Monastery, ir teacher of moral theology. 1824 m. again Gardine antiques store, 1825 m. in the Vilnius monastery, 1826—1827 m. Subprion of the Fern Monastery, 1828—1829 m. Procancellarius of Raseiniai Monastery, 1830 m. prior there, o 1831 —1835 m. again procancellarius. From 1836 m. again Paparčiuose (1841 m. librarian), later in Palevėnė monastery, where he died 1849 m. (other data) — 1854 m.)?. Iš these data show that D. Sutkevičius worked in various places in Lithuania, was a librarian, so the materials for lexicographic ir works could be chosen from the living language of the people. In Lithuanian bibliography mentioned iš elsewhere ir ir 1831 (approx.), 1835, 1942 ir 1848 m. D. Manuscripts of Sutkevičius' dictionaries iš now known as surviving 1835 m. ir 1848 m. dictionaries. 1831 m. date is doubtful. Ji su note on (approx. 1831 m.) specified V. Biržiškos In Lithuanian Bibliography (II d. No. 631, 870 ir kt ). 1831 m. dated ke- * V. Maciūnas (see section 4.4). The Lithuanianist Movement early XIX, a. Kaunas, indicates 1939, p. 154) that D. Sutkevičius' name is found in the student record book of the Department of Physics of Vilnius University 1804/5 ir 1805/6 the school year. * V. Biržiška, Aleksandrynas, kn. 2, Chicago, a 1963, p. 379. 217 Lithuanian-Polish dictionary of the volume of books, existing until 1864 m. Ferrties monastery, jį after closing in the same year transferred į Vilnius Public Library ir mentioned in the description of its manuscripts department", o 1915 m. exported į Russia". S. Baltramaičio 1894 m. information states that D. Sutkevičiaus „Stownik litewski“, manuscript belonging to Russian Academy of ir Sciences that he E. Voltaire prepared for press®. If this is the same manuscript that mentions V. Biržiška, it's į He was supposed to enter Russia in, ne 1915 but earlier. The matter has not yet been definitively clarified, the manuscript o itself has not been found. Now detected archive data about D. Sutkevičius’ lexicographic manuscripts are translated by the aforementioned four-part (books) Lithuanian-Polish dictionary manuscript removed į 1842 m., which are specified in Book catalog of the Fern Monastery ,,Pars librorum bibliotecae Conventus Generalis Vilnensis... Year Domini 1849“*. Here in the ir grammar section of the dictionaries (p. 83) separately marked du D. Manuscripts of Sutkevičius: 1) Stownik Lithuanian-Polish, First-hand manuscript. Sutkievich. 1835 (No. 21). 2) I'm tense. Stownik Lithuanian-Polish. Manuscript revised by himself Author. Sutkiewicz, Tom 1842 1—4 (No. 22). Since the catalogue of iš nature was compiled In Paparčiai, where he worked for a long time D. Sutkevičius (last since 1836 m. before 1841 the year), so there is reason to believe that S. Bartholomeir w's others mentioned about 1831 m. D. The Lithuanian-Polish four-part dictionary written by Sutkevičius is dated 1842 m. It has not yet been found impossible ir to compare jo su 1835 m. ir 1848 m. D. Dictionary of Manuscripts. Iš number of pages when deciding (I d. 1 — 322 p., IT d. 323-664 p., III d. 665—1096 p., IV d. 1097-1529 p.)?, it is, probably, of greater volume than 1835 m. a dictiona1048 ry with pages. See, 1835 m. dictionary manuscript D. Sutkevičius added in the ir way appeared four parts 1842 m. (books) Lithuanian-- Polish dictionary manuscript. In his last work V. Biržiška jį called trilingual dictionary (Dictionary Lietuviszkai-Lotyniszkay-Lenkiszkas“)?, although earlier „Lietuvių bibliografijoje“ mentioned it as a bilingual dictionary. See, by 1848 m. a trilingual dictionary ir 1842 m. manuscript is called a trilingual dictionary, holding all three D. Sutkevičius' lexicographic works with authentic, though incomplete, copies of one ir dictionary. j So the first D. Sutkevičius’ lexicographic work is considered to ne be a four-part Lithuanian-Poli1831 sh dictionary written in about a year, but the manuscript of the Lithuanian-Polish dictionary is 1835 m. single-volume. It was later transferred to the library of the Marian monastery in Marijampole (seals 1 and 524:,,Bibliotheca Marianorum Mariampoli“; in the middle of the seals — „M1C“), from where it was transferred to the State Republican Library of the Lithuanian SSR after the Second World War (code PR 1127). It's written in ink, clearly. The manuscript and photocopy, which are in the Lithuanian Language and Literature Institute of the MA of na the Lithuanian SSR, are well readable. At the end of the dictionary (after the last word Zyrgas) marked: Ogul Wyrazéw réwsię = 17,924, begins with a Polish pronoun (Note):,,In Polish there are two nasal consonants, namely a, ą, and e, g. In Lithuanian, apart from the two mentioned, there are two more nasal consonants, namely iest i, į and u, ų —e.g. Įvadineju I call, it would be wrong to write Iwadineju or Inwadineju, it would be against the pronunciation of Lithuanian-Žmudzki Language. Similarly as regards u, ų e.g. The second case of the plural is written Tų žmonių These people. It is impossible to write Tu žmoniu or Tun žmoniun, and it will also not agree with the pronunciation of this Language. K. Szyrwid S. Only part of the Bible was published in Lithuania — J. The New Testament (1816). Comparing the abbreviation Bibl. Blink. (B.Z., BZ) marked quotes as relevant su J. In the testament of Giedraitis, it is clearly seen that they are quite identical. So it is clear that D. Sutkevičius used the translation of J. Giedraitis, by Zenklindamas Bibl. Blink. Similarly, J. Giedraitis himself called his translation in a letter to A. Butkevičius:,,..- .poskonczonym zaledwo wydatku na druk kilka tysięcy Exemplarzy Biblii w Języku Żmudzkim...“ ** Rare words and illustrative examples from the following religious scriptures: Ewangelie polskie litewskie marked with abbreviations y (1743), Ewan, Ew (e.g. 24, 37, 40, 41, 55, etc.). Of the more than twenty editions of the Gospels (e.g., 1750, 1752, 1756, 1769, 1770, 1774, 1779, 1790, 1794, 1797, 1803, 1805, 1819) in the Vilnius State University Library, only the 1743 edition (code LR3314) corresponds to the Gospel passages mentioned in D. Sutkevičius’ dictionary. Broma atwerta ing wiecznasti (1777...) is marked with the abbreviation Broma, Brom. (e.g. 8, 11, 21, 29, 33, 39, 40, 53, 58, etc.). It is difficult to say exactly which edition was used, because some editions are missing in Vilnius libraries (e.g. 1806, 1811). It has been found that the pages of Broma used by D. Sutkevičius do not correspond to the pages of the editions of 1753, 1766, 1799, 1802, 1824, but reflect the pages of the 1777 edition. ; The Rosary of the Most Holy Virgin Mary and the Sweetest Ward of Jesus (1797) is marked with the abbreviation Rož (occasionally Rožan.) So far, it has not been possible to determine ir which songs were used D. Sutkevičius. The 1835 m. illustration of Sutkevičius' dictionary, su compared with the iš examples taken from religious writings, is not complete, ji but nevertheless very ir valuable and significant. Ji praturtino D. Sutkevičius- 's dictionary ir was contributed by į jo illustration of bright secular elements. It should be noted that the illustrations of some words are ir often accompanied by po references to several sources where the word or ar sentence is used, e.g. : Apsieemi — I follow, I proceed — Ir kaypo Damascus dransey surrounded wardan lezaus — I as w Damascus laughed and went away w Imie lezusa — Bibl.Z. k.195.w.27 Jub.k.5 Rēž.k:190. N.Tk.215.w.9.k.254.w.3. D. The dictionary is based almost entirely on written sources. This was determinjo ed by the profession and working conditions (lack of direct contact su with other people). ir Nors 1848 m. in the dictionary preface he notes that "over du ten su years high with su great hardly ir sweat, po thulas country Lithuaniir an Samogitians traveling, collecting words", but 1835 m. The material presented in the dictionary, containing almost everywhere references to written sources, ir clearly shows that the words of the illustration were collected ne iš folk language, but iš writings. Only about the words 30 do not have abbreviations from written sources, ir they, at least in part, can be considered borrowed words iš from written ir sources į inserted into the popular language, namely: Assiniboine — Bydleko począgu Jako Kosi, Osiel (30), Atkaksznis — Cwiekulec (35), Brazday — Pulp (63), I'm driving. — Smorgam (63),! The structure of the dictionary is alphabetical, simple. In addition, the alphabetization of words by subsequent letters avoided mistakes. For example, in the letter A, the word Doubtful is given first, followed by Doubtfuly, whereas it should be the other way around. The title words are followed by the nouns of conjugated words, the first person form of verbs, adverbs and prepositions. After Lithuanian words, the Polish equivalents are given after the hyphen. There are also untranslated words, e.g. : Appiarst (13), Arkimas (28), Atgajo (33), Aimieus (48), Balwa (54), Blaksterejimas (61), Gandejo (96), Gurwolis (120), Įgrissimas (124). The last lexicographic work of D. Sutkevičius: Zodinis Letuwiszkay-Lotiniszkay-Lenkiszkas. Dictionarium Lithvanice-Latino-Polonicum. Lithuanian-Latvian-Polish Dictionary. About Priest Dominika Sutkiewicze Dominikona true Letuwnika [underlined: Zemaiti] with a large warg isztaysitas. It is in the library of the Lithuanian Language and Literature Institute of the MA of the Lithuanian SSR (code: In. R. 3875). Format 22,5x18 cm. Zodynas contains about 19,150 Lithuanian words with Latin and Polish equivalents. About 720 words (repetitive, various forms and other) were deleted. This is the correction of the manuscript to the letter H. No further sweeps detected. The dictionary begins with,,PRATARME”: „Ležuwis or the language Letuwiszka with Žemaytiszka is the most difficult of the wisu szalu languages, because it has no Kalbriedas or Grammatikas, so not only Parakwiias rubeženczias, but also Kaymus or Sodas, gratey essanczias, kaiboy wisame do not agree. Iš D. A review of Sutkevičius’ manuscript dictionaries shows that he has prepared several significant lexicographic jo works.
