LITHUANIAN KALBOTYROS QUESTIONS, XXVIII (1989) LANGUAGES COMMUNICATIONS IR INTERACTIONS MARYTĖ RAZMUKAITĖ GARLIC SURROUNDS RESIDENTIAL PLACES WORDS LEXICAL-STRUCTURAL CHARACTERISTICS Gervėčių apylinkės (Gardino srt. Astravo, iš part — Smurgainių raj.) names of places of residence, or oikonymes, as well as other toponyms (hydronyms and microtoponyms), are close in their lexical structural characteristics ir South of iš the village is the village of Saint-Vincent. The microtoponymics of this compact and isolated Lithuanian language hall in the Belarusian SSR, like the dialect lexicon, has been more influenced by Slavic languages, but the oikonymics of this region has changed much less. Ji as if continuing bordering adjacent Lietuvos TSR toponymic area. Thus, it essentially belongs to the same region, whose type of geographical names and their structure were determined by similar historical, cultural and economic conditions and realities. Until 1939, Gervėčiai and its surroundings were a town in Vilnius County, the centre of a village, which had about 150 dwellings (including 23 manors) (see Kardelytė 1975, 5). By tradition, until the middle of the 19th century, this district was still directly connected with ethnographic Lithuania — the main area of the Lithuanian language, especially near Buivydžiai, Nemenčinė, Karkažiškės, Strūnaitis (Vidugiris 1974, 117; 1972, 19). Even the similarity of the terrain, land surface and physiographical data of those neighbourhoods is reflected in the toponyms, especially in microtoponyms. The article was based not on all the names of these places, but only those whose Lithuanian equivalents were recorded in the 1970 comprehensive expedition collecting material for the nomenclature!. Therefore, the amount of material available here is not large — about 75 oikonimai of Gervėčiai and neighboring (Izabelinos, Kiemėliškių, Mikailiškių, Varnioniū) neighborhoods are presented. Since the names of places are written from the living language — from the representatives of the dialect, therefore in some places, if necessary, the dialect genders of the oikonomes are also given in parentheses, as well as their Belarusian equivalents. Like other local names in Gervėčiai district, oikonimai originated from common words (b.Ž.), i.e. adjectives, or other real names. The oikonimization of these words or names (translation into oikonimes) in the dialect took place in two ways: some oikonimes originated from common or actual words without the forms of construction (primary- ), some — after acquiring the forms of construction of toponyms (secondary) (see Vanagas 1970, 28; 53). Both primary and secondary toponymic constructions of oikonymes are characterized by several cases of oikonymization: 1) affixation, 2) pluralization, 3) composition (cf. ITo1 Place names of Gervėčiai district collected by J. Lipskienė, M. Razmukaitė and A. Vidugiris. 77 KOJBeKas 1983, 6). Meanwhile, according to leksing-semanting composition origin ir The localities of Gervėčiai are several: asmenvardiniai 1) (from names, surnames, nicknames), adjectives 2) (from b. ž. — nouns, adjectives) ir 3) iš other toponyms (oikonymi, hydronyms). The primary ones. These In Gervėčiai neighborhood is written about 19 %. 1. Beafixed: a) Appellative — Colonia (Bruss. "Steel, Wood, and Steelwork in the Middle Ages" (PDF). verb “willow, willowwood”. Pluralia tantum oikonimai. These morphologically pluralized place names have dgs. the ending of the denominator. Since the number form of place names, especially oikonimes, is not a morphological or grammatical one, but a category of word formation and performs the function of a toponymic indicator (cf. Cymepanckas 1969, 114; Tlomoisbckas 1983, 96), some authors consider oikonimes with plural endings as derivatives of flexional formation (cf. Jlevmrorosa 1970, 124—128). 2 Belarusian equivalents of common k. vtv. are presented according to J. Rapanovičius (Pamanosiu 1982, 16 —269). * Write. The sources record the gender Giberda (I'ubepoa) (cf. Vanagals 1970, 126—127). 5 These transferred names of other places, countries, cities, countries, states are called expressive metaphorical place names by some onomasts (plg. Muxaiinosa 1971, 140). * It's a newer k. name, it used to be here Karmazai. * From a formal point of view, these vtv. could also be presented to the prepositional derivatives, i.e. to the secondary oikonimes, but bearing in mind that they, like the above-mentioned prepositional oikonimes, are probably made of physiographic terms, they are reviewed with the primary ones. iš — 78 The pluralia tantum oikonimi of Gervėčiai neighbourhoods are presented as a separate group. It is one of the most productive of the 19th-century dialects. There are 2 types of assignments: 1) personal assignments and 2) professional assignments. 1) Personal nouns make up a large part of dialect oikonimes: Bajorai (brus. 5afipbi) k. Razmukaitė 1983, 7 The suffix 150. -éciai (-étis, -éta) rarely occurs in Lithuanian prepositional place names; it is more typical for the formation of other place names, especially hydronyms, and is common, with small exceptions, only in the very east of Lithuania, east of the line Pabradė, Utena, Zarasai (cf. The oikonations made by derivation here are about 30 9, ir pluralia tantum oikonimų similarly. Summarizing the overview, The micromodel of the Gervėčiai neighborhood would be as follows: The origin of the iš name: personv. i$ Appeliat. iš other vtv. Be that, perhaps ir because of the constructive elements characteristic of ir the neighboring dialects, because of the lexicon itself, the similarity of the lexems and other reasons, more than half of the Gervėčiai apylinkės oikonimų (about has 40) correspondences in the above-mentioned On the edge of Lithuania. The prevalence of personal names would iš indicate that most of the names of places of residence in this region appeared relatively late, the appearance of which was already conditioned by private jų ownership. | Karaliūnas S.
