Reviews KELIOS REMARKS ON HIBR. stigavoti Hibr. stigavoti "to assert, to affirm, to believe (ref. argue, object)" and the Vedic jo (įstigavoti, pastigavoti, par-/per-stigavodti, susistigavoti; stigavėjimas, stigavoné) common rather widespread ir in the Žemaičių dialect (especially in northwestern dialects) word. Daukanto region, and it is unreliable to rely solely on his writing, because S. Daukanta wrote the long and short vowels inconsistently. The illustrative example of LKŽ, which is taken from S. Daukanto "Darby", confirms this (here the letter y usually marks the short extended i, cf.: Wyinog tu wiru stygawoyimas nieka nie darodis, p. 20). Daukanto "Works". However, the example given by S. Daukanto from "Darbai" with the long i as in the first case is not accurate, because it only gives the notation. In fact, even the example of S. Daukantas is not suitable here, because not the past tense form of the word stigauti is in the sentence mentioned, but the present tense of the verb stigavoti. This is clear from the context: Pinkerson's stygawolja] sawa rasztuse jog Eurley yr Sarmatay winos gimynies buwa yr wina megis kalbieja. The same is said by the second famous wir's Maltbrun in a stanza... (p. 11). So is it not more reliable to rely on the gender of stigauti (with the short i of the root) given by the dictionaries of A. Kuršaitis, M. Miežinis, M. Niedermann, giving the form of writing with the long stigauti as adjacent. But plg.
