173 Insights from the audit ZigMas ZinkeVičius The directions of scientific research are: Baltic studies, history of Lithuanian language, dialectology, onomastics. Lithuanian place names are place names that are no longer used due to the disappearance of objects marked by them. However, such place names are a treasure of the Lithuanian language and should be included in the Dictionary. They're usually only known to the older generation, who should be collecting and describing them. it does not matter that those place names are mentioned in written sources. the memories of the ancients would have given significant additional data to their history and the objects marked by them. You can see it in a few examples in my hometown. Cbiškės (variants: Cbikės, Cibiknė, plg. cbė ‘ožka) is the name given to the left bank of the Holy River to the northeast of the Ukmergė in the interwar period, when the river formed a large body of water due to the dam, which disappeared with the dam. then the place name Cbiškės with its variants became unnecessary. In my childhood, it was called the waiting room, which was on the left bank of the Holy River, between the rivers Šišupis and Duoburlis. As the water level changed, the Paupė oak became an unbreakable pine tree and its old name disappeared. I don't know if anyone uses it now, unless they're remembering the past. In my childhood, jotniškė was the name of a beautiful giraffe that was on the way from the father's house to the village of jogvilas. It had a lot of birds that we liked to pick. This giraffe has long since overgrown the nearby forest and as a separate object it has disappeared. At the same time, her name was forgotten. I haven't had a chance to look into it. The former pavilion was on the left bank of the Holy River, southwest of the present highway. It was separated from the south by a slope, which gave the place its name. This place name became unnecessary and disappeared after the construction of the highway. The name Pašlaitė can sometimes be used only by the older generation, remembering the past. The place where the sword was placed has long since become an untouchable pearl in the territory of the Holy Land. The name comes from the word pig, although in my childhood no one remembered that such a troubadour had stood here. Apparently, it was a long time ago. the relationship between the mentioned and similar place names and the analogous place names in written sources this is already a matter for the creators of the
174 acta ZigMas ZinkeVičius Linguistica Lithuanica LXX word. There is no doubt that the authors of the Zodyna would be greatly pleased with such memories of the elderly if more of them were published. The disappearance of Vietnamese words is a very complicated process. It depends on the nature of the speech: it may not be used in official speech, but it is still used in conversation. It is also heard from the age of the speakers: the young may not know at all, but the older generation still remembers. All of this has to be the focus of the researcher. It makes his job difficult, but interesting. I want to end this article with what I started with urging you to look for extinct place names in your homeland for the first time.
