e.g.: economic reform, state income, state loans, state bank, state budget, etc. 224 the term unified energy system (in Russian edunan snepeemuveckan cucmena). Next to it, there was an attempt to correct — the general energy system, but both these terms are bad. Instead of them, a common energy system would be appropriate. -. Incorrect terms are used in the interpretation of terms, for example, echo sounder “electronavigation (=electronic navigation) device for measuring the depth of the sea by ultrasonic waves <...>". Instead of the economic term capital investments (p. 89) in the geography dictionary, perhaps capital contributions would be more appropriate? o The dictionary contains very categorical but imprecise statements, for example, “International languages – English and French” (p. “Language”, p. 87); “The international languages are English and French” (p. “World languages”, p. 145). But are only ar these two languages considered international? no further evaluation of this dictionary has been undertaken. This time it was only concerned to show a few obvious inaccuracies. jo ir In 1993, the very needed explanatory translation dictionary "Pedagogical Terms" prepared by Prof. L. Jovaišas was published in 3000 copies by "Šviesos" publishing house. It is the first explanatory dictionary of pedagogy terms published in Lithuania, covering about 1000 more common terms of theoretical and applied pedagogy, its history and methodology. It was reviewed, pronounced and reviewed by linguists together with other scholars. The publication is useful for both researchers and lecturers, teachers and students preparing for teaching. The preface of the dictionary says that this “the first attempt to describe the concepts of ir human education in Lithuanian language” (p. 3). However, we had long ago, although only a couple of years earlier, the first time printed manuscript, unfinished prof. iš St. Šalkauskio! Jovaiša L. Pedagogical terms. London: Light, 1993. 264 p. 98
a pedagogical dictionary* of terms in 1600 French! su German ir Russian language equivalents. A ir considerable part of the t mines of this discussed dictionary overlap, only it is not clear, ar L. Jovaiša used SL. In Šalkauskis's dictionary ir ar iš jo took pedagogy terms. For example, L. Jovaiša's terms persistence, confirmation are not in the "Dictionary of Lithuanian Language", jų but we cannot consider them current novelties, because they have already been used St. Šalkauskis. The novelties can be the terms self-image, self-activity, act, because nčnei jų ra “Lietuvių kalbos žodyne" (word character searched in this dictionary), than in the St. Dictionary of Pedagogical Terms. Iš I would like to start by discussing vocabulary structure. In the preamble it is said that “when describing a term, a logical definition is given first, o followed by a detailed explanation" (p. 3). If the term is multivalued, all values are returned. jo Although the preamble states that the multi-term “values are usually specified in one slot" (p. 3; here should be clarified in one article), Zodynas — is non-alphabetic compound terms, as singulars, presented in the alphabetical order of the — first letters of the word. For example, the ir terms aggressive behavior behavior; explanatory reading reading are presented separately, although for some reason this principle is always observed. For example, the ir terms neuropsychiatric syndromes, ir psychopathological syndromes are presented in alphabetical order, the term syndrome. ne ne o po Be In addition, with regard to the arrangement of the terms, it should be added that here the established requirement of Lithuanian lexicography for the composition of dictionaries is not observed, which is described in the "Dictionary of the Modern Lithuanian Language" as follows: "When arranging words in alphabetical order, no distinction is made between long and short vowels (a, g; į, į, y; u, y, ū), between broad and narrow vowels e, ¢ ė, for example, the word ūpas is placed first, then upė, first trėkšti, then trempti, tręšti"*. In the publication, first pedagogical terms with the letter i, then —į, finally —y, the same and in other cases — *Salkauskis St. Raštai. 5th ed., 1991. T. 2. them, because of this, for example, whim found isolation, po peculiarity insight, po consciousness po characteristics, puppet racing etc. po ir Lithuanian terms in this dictionary are translated into English, į German, Russian, ir international terms only o indicate the origin. But it must be said that this matter of structure is also always observene d. For example, next to the term heuristic learning, the equivalents in other languages are shown (so it should ir be), next to the optional o teaching already explained origin (no matches found) In accordance with the aforementioned principle, in addition to the international two-word term grūpių homogeniškumas (homogenization of grūpių) is ma indicatedorigin, o international terms grūpės atmosfera grupės ir (atmosphere group) and diagnostika (diagnosis) are į translated into other languages. For some terms, such as oligophrenopedagogics, neither origin nor equivalents are indicated. In terms of the relationship of the equivalents ir of the origin of terms, it should be added that the origin statement cannot replace the equivalents, so the dictionary į should include the equivalents ir of international terms, because in different languages they can have a different meaning, at least as far as the expression differs. ir The glossary contains omitted terms, for example, the reference in the formalization article see. statistics 58, of activity at the end of the article see. pedagogical activities 254, o teacher seminary is not even explained, just see. pedagoginė mokykla 133, but statistics of terms pedagoginė mokykla, pedagoginė veikla in the dictionary are not available. Very often the reference terms do not match those in the — glossary, e.g.: classification, see. the classification of pedagogical 95, o sciences in the — dictionary of pedagogical disciplines; masturbation, see sexual education in the 113, dictionary — sexual pedagogy; house works, see. full-day group in the 136, vocabula- — ry full-day school; factor, see statistical research 255, in the — dictionary statistical analysis. Perhaps in terms of meaning these terms are equally ir close, but ar in the dictionary such inconsistencies should not exist. Title terms of articles in the dictionary are pronounced. It is well punctuated, but due to poor polygraphic quality the punctuation marks are very blurred in many places. However, some terms should be left unchanged, for example, neglect, mood, psychopathological iš syndromes, purposefulness, participants in education, etc. ir Turning to the content of the dictionary, it should be emphasized that the definitions of terms are broad, detailed, 100
comply with ir the terminology standard, but they are full of complicated scientific style stamps, rare words that require interpretation. Perhaps this led to the split of the publication? However, when you want to ką correct it to make it easier to understand, for example, ir Normos interiorizu ojama, inkorporu ojama (=formed, implemented) in the life of the personality, ir they become a behavioural regulatory factor (p. doréviné standard, p. 45). There are some ir inaccuracies in the following explanations. D7.3 The meaning of the word disability is interpreted as “disease, ill health”, so it should be changed to: ir ne ga lia (=negaléjimas) to take care of children, adolescents due to family breakdown, after children run away from home iš (=children's iš escape ir homes) etc. Causes (p. neglect, p. 139). Although now the terms aspirant, aspirantūra in Lithuania are turned into historicisms, the Dictionary they both put to explain, the į actual term doctorant is not provided, although the ir doctorate o (=doctorate) is. By the way, the terms postgraduate doctorate ir meanings in the recent past were different, although in the dictionary they are mixed, it is written that postgraduate “also called PhD" (p. 17, dr plg. ir Page 10 dactylanthera, p. 35). In the definitions of ir terms, there are stylistic errors in the ir interpretations, e.g. : The creation of hypotheses is conditioned by (=determines) also the objective conditions for its realization (p. the development of hypotheses, p. 68); In production work, the pace determines (=determines) the productivity of operations (p. the pace of work, p. 38); Ji į ga line (allows, helps, creates conditione ns) only to know yourself, but to ir improve your activitiir es relationsu ship environment (p. reflex, p. 197). Regarding the terms presented in the dictionary, it should also be said that, as written in the preamble, many “attention is paid to similar disputed ir terms, which are tried to differentiate, to describe as accurately as possible" (p. 3). However, it is wrong that indiscriminately started to legalize words considered linguistic errors. ir For example, the term activity should certainly not be used in the meaning of “lesson, lessons at home, etc. ir <...>." Explaining the term performance, the author of the publication 101
provides statements performed lesson, performed lesson in the following meaning: “When we say "teacher is teaching a lesson", we mean the process, "taught a lesson" means he did — not finish it, "finished a lesson" o means he finished it — ją ir (p. 18). However, the verb perform is not necessarily su related to the conduct ir of the lesson, — it can mean learning, e.g.: doing ir homework, tasks. Then maybe "made the lesson" could be understood as ir "was in vo lessons", "learned lessons". In conclusion, it should be said that these remarks have in no way diminished the dictionary's scientific value. na ir This publication encourages interest in ir further developing pedagogy ir jo Lithuanian terminology. Nijolė The appearance of each new dictionary of terms is a significant event both for the field of psychology and for terminology in general. ir All the more so, if the dictionary is the first, because it can determine the terminology of the field, it also shows the orientation of the science itself and at o least some further ir development. jo Psychology began to be interested in ir its terms created even before the war In Lithuania. St. In the dictionaries of philosophy and pedagogy compiled by Šalkauskas (the latter, however, was never published at the time) we can also find quite a lot of psychological terms (feeling, consciousness, etc.). Later, psychology was not forgotten either: printed articles, books (although there were perhaps not enough of them), in which, of course, it was not possible to do without the terms of that field. However, the first dictionary appeared only in 1993. It is published by the Science and Encyclopedias Publishing House "Psychology Dictionary". According to the authors of the dictionary, it is intended for psychologists and specialists in other fields, as well as for people interested in psychology for self-education purposes. For this reason, the dictionary should be prepared with great care. Not much! Dictionary of Psychology. New York: Science and Encyclopaedia, 1993. 368 p. 102
