Stasys CHANGE CI. LEMCHEN WORKS BOOK Last year for the language bar plow Chackeliui Lemchen turns ninety (born 1904 m. of April 21 d. in Papilė, present-day Akmena district, in one way or another ar connected with the life su ne of one language worker, starting Kalykstu Kasakauskiu ir Simonu You got it. Kas He knew, perhaps the to famous overseers of the works of the local language ir šį (Papilion). On the occasion of anniversaries Lithuanian State Jewish Museum has hurried to publish a beautiful book “Darbai ir polėkiai"', which was composed of Polina Pailis ir Judith Rozina, o edited and scientifically advised Rytis Trimonis. Before the title page of the book next to the anniversary photo inserted before 70 m. written J. Jablonskis’s commentary, which, be among other things, states: “<...> there are few students who are as well versed in Lithuanian language as he is <...>”. Such a word of the greatest master of the common language would be very close to the heart of any linguist. O Ch. Lemchen was only twenty at the time... The book begins with a preface E. Zinger’s article “The Conciliator of Cultures”. To be listed here Ch. Lemchen’s works, which are of value to Lithuanian ir Jewish culture and for which he has been a long-term mediator, were reminded of jo Golgothas. Further announcements are presented in sections. Į the first chapter of the book composed of articles on Ch. Lemchen. Chapter starts Z. Zinkevičius' greeting speech. K. Ulvydas recalled the pre-war work of the jubilee as a Lithuanian language teacher in Jewish gymnasiums, į jo written ir edited dictionaries, language culture educational activities, Sabaliauskas A. more broadly examined Ch. Lemchen- ’s book “The influence of Lithuanian language In order to achieve this dų goal, Vitkauskas V. attempted to review all the works on the language. A jo bouquet of beautiful words was presented to the anniversary University of Oxford H.D. Kacas, journalist G. Smoliakov, press ! Works in ir Polish: For the 90th anniversary of the birth of the linguist Chackeli Lemchen. - V.: Lithuanian State Jewish Museum, 1994. - 208 p. 80 employee D. Gelpern ir the writer G. Cannondale. Embedded here ir Ch. For Lemchen A. Churgin's cylinder and the teacher's J. Letter from Lazlo. All linguists who wrote for this section, be other Ch. Lemchen's works, as a mini-editor ir and terminologue. For more than three decades, the anniversary man ate the bread of the editor. Be other publications, he į accompanied a part of the Lithuanian language scientific works, among them the fundamental three-volume ir academic “Lithuanian grammar", as well as almost all the terms of various fields published by the publishing house over a quarter of a century. Zodynus. The linguist worked professionally on terminology, and during the first few post-war decades he actively participated in all the work in this field, apparently often uttering the decisive word. At the publishing house Ch. Lemcheno edited dictionaries of law, librarianship, geology, physical geography, physics, ir polytechnics, land reclamation, chemistry, literature, botany, economics, computational technology, meteorology, and medical terms are still significant normative works of Lithuanian terminology. ir gi Almost all of those Gardens have been reviewed The direction of this work ir in general was indicated by the Terminology Commission of the Lithuanian ne Language and Literature Institute, so they only introduced ir normative terms, but laid the tų foundations for further organized ir terminology work for the management of field terms. Ir it does not matter that some of the terms provided in those dictionaries have not survived, that a little jų later was corrected changed, that finally ar some of the dictionariir es published several decades ago themselves are now obsolete obsolete, new ones were released. ar Their work, a major normative role in terminology, served for a long time, most of them still serve as the ir most important sources of ir exemplary terminology in their fields. tų O because of the mo ungrown amount ir J. Jablonski, ir J. Some of ir the works of Balčikonis and other prominent linguists remained unpublished in the jų language, and other, in one case even corrected words and sayings took their place. ir Time makes adjustments. But he is unable to minimize the role played by those works. During the hustle and bustle of the great anniversaries, no attention was paid to į the fact that the most active ir Ch. Lemchen- 's hard-working du translations “International Words Dictionary” 81 (1959–1961). They helped to establish the phonetic, accentological and grammatical nationalization of many of the so-called į international terms in these dictionaries, to strengthen the very foundations of this nationalization, and with the merciless insertion of Lithuanian equivalents or synonyms, they showed that it is possible to do without borrowings if desired. And what to say about Ch. Lemcheno prepared Russian-Lithuanian dictionaries, which for many translators of books, booklets, articles in various fields were favorite books (this is shown by the warm comments of the J. A letter from Ch. Lemchen's words). By the way, for the largest of these dictionaries, the fourth "Rusy-lictuviy dictionary of languages- ", published in 1982-1985, Ch. In 1987 Lemchen was awarded the Lithuanian SSR State Prize for Science and Technology. That terminology matters Ch. Lemchen has been ir very concerned about this, as shown by several articles published in his journal "Language Culture" and in newspapers. Some of the articles of this and other topics of the linguist, teacher, dictionary writer and terminologue are included in the second chapter of the book dedicated to his anniversary (it is a pity that most of these works are printed in abbreviated form, and some have not been included at all. On such a beautiful occasion it would have been very wise not to spare the other and put together all the advertisements scattered in various publications. Now we will probably have to wait for another, even more honorable anniversary). It can be said that, as soon as the war storms began, in the article “Lithuanian Scientific Terminology Clash” published in “Literatūra ir menas” in 1951, Ch. Lemchen drew public attention to the need to take care of terms in various fields and called for the establishment of a permanent expert terminology commission to manage this work. In the article "Verbal nouns with suffix -(i)ation" inserted in "Language Culture" in 1963, attention was drawn to the fact that the so-called international terms with suffix -(i)ation/-cija in many cases differ in their meaning at least slightly from the very derivatives of verbs with suffix -imas. And in the article "Several issues of the formation of terms" (1999), after a brief overview of what has been done, the basic tų subject of terminology work is raised — "it is extremely important, when creating new or arranging old terms, to observe (1961 the laws and rules of linguistics" (p. 55), ir adjectives with the suffix -inis, -ė, used in compound terms, are defended, their functional agreement with the noun genders of adjectives is shown, and several other things are 82 discussed. It should be noted that the reviewers of the dictionary of chemistry criticized in the article, who considered bimolecular to be an improperly composed word, were still right. The author of the article has not managed to convince, either by the dead examples of DZ, (1954) or even by the sewing machines mentioned by J. Jablonski, that it is equally acceptable to say, for example, and blue-haired girl and blue-haired girl, that J. Balčikonis will have unnecessarily sprayed against unconjugated sentences and that linguists could successfully use some bi-syllabic words (not necessarily only their own bi-syllabic ones). The laws of the Tic language, which must be observed and the terminology work done, do not support such mixed verbs. And this is written here because such terms are still used and even new ones are made. Even more controversial are some of the statements in the article “On Some Questions of Terminology” (1967) signed together with A. Shumin. In this article, both the doctors and their assistant linguist A. Kučinskaitė are hindered by the search for Lithuanian synonyms for so-called international medical terms. Strange, very strange argument repeated in this article that Lithuanians will have more difficulty understanding Lithuanian words than borrowed ones. In no way can one agree with the main provision of the authors of the article, that it is not worth creating own equivalents next to the so-called international terms, even if they have become established. The poor student, whose article regrets that he will have to learn all these terms, would be even easier if doctors used only Latin terms. Then you wouldn’t have to learn Lithuanian at all, even those international ones! After all, the medical language, according to the remark of another notable cultural worker A. Žirgulis, has all the signs of jargon. Therefore, people who have decided to at least touch it should be supported, encouraged, if necessary advised how to do it better. Too much “internationalization” of the language is a harmful thing. It is appropriate for a Lithuanian to want and strive for his language to be Lithuanian. The third chapter "Darby and the Poles" consists of Ch. Lemchen's works on Jewish language and culture. Undoubtedly, the most significant of these is the research83 “The influence of Lithuanian language "Lithuanian Jewish Dialect", 1970 m. published in a limited 1000 edition. Now printed here (and again ex.!), 1000 unfortunately, only excerpts of this important work. O after all, after a quarter of a century, so would have hoped to reprint the whole šį ir the only such ir research and evidence of facts, which gave the ir writer of these lines the opportunity to once again draw on the words of the native Pavenčių dialect. Continue (IV ir V Chapters) inserted Ch. Lemchen's articles on cultural issues, jo translations, printed 1966 m. defence The authorities of the USSR for publisher Antanas Kniūkštas. The sixth chapter of the book consists of Ch. Lemchen's works in ir literature on bibliography. jį List of books written by the author (total published articles 15), (here jų listed 25), translati- (27 ons ads), edited publicatio- (24 ns books) ir a considerable number of various ads, in jį which ma about writes or, apparently, at least mentions himself ar jo works. The be bibliography will undoubtedly need to be supplemented. Just looking at the section of į edited publications, the reader will miss the published 1958 m. “Physical Terms Dictionary” ir A. Novodvorskoye “ English-Lithuanian polytechnic dictionary", so pal 1979 m. of the great "Physical Terms Dictionary- ". Do not mention here ir 1951 bei 1969 m. published translations of "International dictionaries of words". It is not difficult to find ir supplements to the section on the anniversary. The book ends in Lithuanian, English ir Hebrew (Yiddish) printable Ch. Lemchen's life and ir activities dates and explanations of the composers. Moderate use of photos in the publication iš Ch. Lemcheno ir jo family life. Since a large part of the book is devoted to language, it is difficult to fail to mention one language extraordinary. In one article about the anniversary man it is ir written: ‘Dear Ch. Lemchen lived honorably the years appointed to him by the Most High. A lot has been done, productively worked, learned from others" ir (p. 28). Nė some doubt that the worse the ne anniversary will be liveable further, strange ir seemed saying others taught. Eastern Highlanders, who are best at using such participants, here usually say the object's nominative, this is a very beautiful, often repeated statement in the exclamation shouts 84 ir A. Baranauskas: “Old forests loved, in a long song put; our fathers all those songs taught" (underlined by me. — St.K. ). So, learned ne others ir taught, but learned others ir taught! Ar this would be the beginning of a new error of free use of other dialect genders, perhaps revenge of ar the Žemaites on the Vysoké, that they always make mistakes when using kind adjectives? In conclusion, it is a pleasure to celebrate the anniversary of a significant person of language ir culture and wish him even more significant anniversaries. It was a pleasant opportunity to read an interesting, tastefully ta prepared and not badly published book "Works of Poles". ir ir 85
