PRAEITIES AIDAI Stasys CHANGE IMMORTAL DVASIOS IR BODY DOCTOR Not to let the thought of perfection that has not yet been achieved enter your mind. (From Father J. Pabrėža- 's Resolutions) Over the 225 years in the past remained ta 1771 m. of January 15th, when Yeah. no ir Roses Emphasis in the family A son was born in the garden of Veciai, in a palace, in Lenkimų parish books he was registered in Latin as Georgius (in Dutch it will be Jurgis), po 46 years when they joined į The Franciscans of Kretinga (Bernardine) monastery, having received his father's Ambrosius' name. For to ne only now, but sometimes at that time this pupil of ir the Žemaičių priests seminary, a couple of years before the collapse of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania studied in the oldest higher Lithuanian school, at that time called the Senior Lithuanian School, was called himself sometimes signed priest ir Jurgiu Abrasions Emphasis. To this man who has been resting in peace for almost a hundred and a half years (deceased 1849 m. Novembe11 r), was given the honor of making Unforgettable. J. A. The be emphasis, without the slightest doubt, belongs to the greatest men of the nation, to the most glorious Žemaičiai. A friend of the deceased Governor of the Diocese of Žemaitija Chapter Vicar Jonas Chrysostomidae Gintila informed the (1788—1857) whole bishopric: “ A. a. Ambrazius Emphasis, the first world priest, served for many years the Godvo Churches, then St. Mary's Monastery. In the dress of the Third Order of Francis, he was a picture of all kinds of virtues for others. <...> He left many manuscripts in the Žemaičių language of both spiritual and worldly content." However, J. A. Pabrėža was appreciated while still alive. In 1848, he was appointed to the "Wisconsin House of Representatives". Matthew Valančius (1801 — 1875) , even before becoming bishop of Žemaitija, in the section “Men fit to teach” po Peter Roizijus, Motiejus Strijkovskis, Mikalojus Daukša, Pranciškus Šrubauskas, Konstantinas Sirvydas, Mykolas Olševskis, Stanislovas Čerskis put “still living godly writer K. Jurgis Embraziejus PabréZa” (written that he was born in Skuodas parish) and assigned him more space than any other. Here, Pabrėža is highly praised as a preacher (“People listen to his sermons like some apostle with the greatest devotion and get a considerable profit from it”*) and a botanist (“Priest Pabrėža knows the leathery herb growing on our side, the leathery knows the name and surname, and also guesses which one is suitable for whom*”*), a considerable number of his works and other merits are mentioned. And it ends like this: “The Zokanin never manages to do endless work. He has barely dissuade pottery and other early marchers, day by day he writes. Prolong, O God, his days, and give him a rich lord, who will print the books written by him and tell the people! ** Unfortunately, neither then, nor in all 146 years after the death of J. A. Pabrėža such a man was found. Therefore, little was published — above all, the religious booklet “Parkratima tan sauZines” (1849, counterfeit publication, so the year is not true) published by M. Valančius himself, and in America in the magazine “Dirvos” in 1900, as well as a part of the botany work “Botanika or taislius augminis” in a separate print, funded by the S. Daukanto literary society. The details are printed in various publications. Another contemporary, Liudvikas Adomas Jucevičius (1813-1846), described J. A. Pabrėža beautifully in the manuscript “Biographical and literary knowledge of learned Žemaites <...>” marked in 1841, writing: “This is a great expert of the Žemaites language and antiquity, in addition, a talented preacher, but he is especially interested in botany and has already been a member of the Society of Botanists of Lithuania. All the work, all the duties of Fr. J. A. The emphasis will be on performing consciously, dedicatedly and, where necessary, creatively. It shows the manuscripts will gain ir great love and respect of people. Emphasis was placed on working among su people, ir people for people, so the priest was a very necessary and dear person for them. ir This is evidenced, no doubt, by be unplanned queues at the auditorium, numerous listeners of sermons even from farther iš parishes (while he himself jų preached, he travelled through (o ir churches), smaller queues of sick people in the waiting room. ne ar jo Serious attitude to į work, responsibility is convincingly shown by the fact that every work was jo prepared after devoting. Each sermon was well thought out, signed, and a lot was memorized. ir Starting a teacher's career He was the author of the first Lithuanian textbook of geography and prepared teaching ir materials for students at the monastery school in Kretinga. He studied botany, medical literature, and studied plants. O where there are many parish priest and ar later monk duties... O, as rare such people as missing ir jų To Lithuania! The past century The unforgettable people of today are often imagined as statues, erected on pedestal altars. ar They are like people of be everyday life, duties jo and worries, earthly be desires, desires and sins. Ir even be feelings and life. Everyonejų 's life was similar — born, studied, worked, wrote ir finally left eternity. į O what kind of people were they? Perhaps a little bit of the to thing could be seen at least ar palpably by carefully reading ir the jų investigating works. But to investigate it is necessary for each of — the own written researches of this kind, which would try to trace works, iš texts of the author's way ir jo psychology manifestations as not. ir Finally ar everything iš tų texts could be read? What was Jurgis Ambrazius Emphasis? “His height was not high, black-haired, always very cheerful, loved songs", this — "Testimony". Ir but: “On Sundays he would give very be beautiful sermons”. because the writer himself did not see, did not hear and could not see, hear. Finally, a beautiful sight — surrounded by a group of children, he walks through fields, forests, rivers, collecting plants. This is the concern of a man of science and a doctor of people. And what do the relatively abundant surviving “mornings” of him show? Or that he kept away from the parishioners, lived a closed life, drowning in contemplation, in contemplations (cf.: “Do not go to the parishioners and do not speak to them”*, “Talk to everyone as much as is absolutely necessary”*, “Avoid the world”, “Die to the world, despising all its vanity, amusements and inconstancies”’, etc.)? Or perhaps, being of a cheerful nature and loving and loving people, the young priest decided to limit those meetings only so that more time would be left to prepare and carry out the great works of the vocation of a priest and a scientist? After all, the same determination shows the constant care for the Zmoné, the respect for them: “Do not despise others, especially poor ir servants <...>", “To avoid roughness in sermons”, “In the chapel not to die, not to ir overtake people”*, “The priest must be uncowardly, always with a calm face, kind in relations su Zmonémis. <...> Being ti common to all, each ir individually, best father brother." ir The lives of people J. A. The emphasis knew well. Jo sermons are full of even the behavior of people, preparation details. Iš where could he find them? Be what people avoid, people to ir avoid. Pas Emphasis žą ir 2005-2006 The emphasis they floated floated. Apparently, jų he did not disappoint. He will love to communicate. This is shown by the ir wide-ranging contacts of su the Žemaites of that time only with the ir ne light society, jų friendly relationships with people su of higher position. Otherwise would it be that the note ir mentioned J. K. Gintilai wrote in this joking style: “Bėwa pri mūsėo hoc anno No- $ Kun. J. Emphasis Agenda ir Resolution Raudėnuose // Gidžiūnas V. This may be a mockery of the learned people of the time, as well as the clergy, Zargon. But what a beautiful playful style! Stylist Fr. J. A. Emphasis was great. His sermons are really wonderful to read today. They exude the vibrant language of the coastal Samogitians of the late 18th and the first half of the 19th century. We can no longer play with fate. These surviving sermons written 150-200 years ago (this year marks exactly 200 years since J. Pabrėža was ordained a priest in Vafnė) as one of the greatest monuments of the Žemaičių language, as the most valuable source of the life of the people and customs of that time, must finally be collected in a collection and printed. In this way, the Emphasis would become no less important to our culture than the authors or editors of the old sermons (postils). Being a teacher, healing people, collecting, researching and describing plants, J. A. Pabrėža also worked on a great language work. He was a great lover of his native country. So, studying everything that came to him, the latest, he tried to present it together with his observations and research findings in his native language. This is what we call a "progressive writing style". Defending his plant names, his spelling right and the need to do it independently, in another letter ką su ir J. K. The native land finally accepted the anniversary of the birth of the poet after receiving a monograph dedicated to him — Viktoras Gidžiūnas’ book “Jurgis Ambraziejus Pabrėža (1771 —1849)”, published by the Lithuanian Catholic Academy of Sciences in Rome in 19932. One hundred pages of this book are devoted to the life of Pabrėža (the first part “Pabrėža’s person and his apostolate”), the next hundred pages are devoted to his sermons (the second part “Žemaičių papročiai Pabrėžos pamoksluoseTM). Very valuable are the appendices to the book, which contain one sermon, the priest’s resolutions, a couple of poems, wills, a few letters, a list of sermons and another document. Unfortunately, again our great Unforgettable failed — so much as the author of the book himself managed to do. A few pages of the third part (“Pabrėža — scientist, doctor and citizen”) from the material collected by V. Gidžiūnas, notes and sketches written by I. Vaišvilaite are only a timid glance at the most significant part of Pabrėža- ’s activity and legacy for the history of Lithuanian science. It is true that the bar was well studied much earlier —in the book “Jurgis Pabrėža (1771 — 1849)”. 5 Lithuanian Encyclopedia. [Boston, 1960). T. 21. P. 303-304. "Jankevičienė R, Lazdauskaitė Ž. J. In the book, J. A. Pabrėža is shown extensively as a person and especially as a priest and monk. He was a very virtuous, honest, and duty-bound ir Man. His concern was not for himself, not for higher places or a better life of his own, but for the health of the spirit and body of the passers-by of this earth with whom he su was destined to walk the paths of life. He gave his whole life, his whole self, to others. After such a presentation, it is not surprising that the author of the book in question, V. Gidžiūnas, writes in the Lithuanian Encyclopedia that J. A. Pabrėža “has all the qualities that the Church requires when declaring them blessed***. It is very, very unfortunate that there is still no person who would undertake to thoroughly investigate and describe J. A. Pabrėža as a scientist, as the creator of the Lithuanian language of science and as a doctor of the people. And now, as it was a few decades ago, it can be boldly repeated that his works are still an important source of science, terminology and language in general, because he was the first to consciously and systematically create terms in Lithuanian and realized this himself. He was the first to formulate the principles of the composition of Lithuanian scientific terminology and especially for this purpose he raised the importance of the living language. Finally, he was the first to write Lithuanian dictionaries of terms. It is true that Pabrėža himself did all this in Žemaičių kalba, clearly realizing and emphasizing his own lowliness. Mitosnikom Flory Zmudzkiey i znawcom języka žmudzkiego, poswigcone) he explained thoroughly that a true Samogitian botanist must collect the names of plants himself, especially from old women, herbalists, collect not only in his parish or neighborhood, but in all Samogitia and throughout Lithuania, find out which plants are called by which name and on the basis of thorough research choose the most suitable names. % Encyclopedia of Life. T. 21. P. 304. By the way, the idea of taking care of the proclamation of the Blessed of the Pope, in the words of V. Biržiška, had arisen before the Second World War (see Biržiška V. Aleksandrynas. Chicago, 1963. Vol. 2 P. 311). But, apparently, it is believed or desired to form and maintain the conviction that noble, higher clergymen also get a place at the feet of God easier than ordinary priests or even confessors. 7 from Pabrėžos unprinted botanical writings //Kosmos. Careful and thorough study is worth it ir J. A. The language of the emphasis, which has a good ability to reflect the lively language of the coastal Samogitians of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, but at the same time is carefully decorated, graceful, harmoniously rhythmically waving like the nearby Samogitian Sea, which is sometimes calmly cooling, sometimes raging. The sermons of emphasis—a wonderful blend of eloquence and living speech, the works of a true master of the word. His writings are also in other languages. The lively flow of ir language, Pabrėža wanted to convey in his writing. In letters J. K. He discussed with Gintalė several times his problems with writing, emphasizing that “it is best to write as we speak”.% In his attitude to the written language, J. A. Pabrėža will differ greatly from his younger friend S. Daukanto. The latter, over time, began to adapt to all Lithuanians, perhaps sometimes wishing that its coastal Žemaičių dialect would be easier to establish as a common Lithuanian language, but perhaps rather yielding to the tradition of writings prepared on the basis of other dialects. And in his numerous writings, Pabrėža will have sought to keep as true as possible the language of his own coastal Žemaites (both Juodas and Daukantas were from the same Lenkimų parish). As a reliable monument of the language of that time, the writings of Pabrėža are extremely valuable, unfortunately, not yet valued and properly underestimated. Undoubtedly, J. A. Pabrėža had much better conditions to preserve the living native dialect than S. Daukantas. After all, he spent almost his entire life in Žemaitija (except for a couple of years of schooling in Vilnius) and most of it in the environment of his native dialect, constantly communicating with people in various circumstances, who did not even know how to speak otherwise. But people usually create the conditions themselves. He arranged his life in such a way that he was constantly among the people of Žemaitija, not as an official or a person detached from people, but as a simple, heartfelt and caring doctor of their spirits and bodies. He understood the people and the people understood him. People understood Jurgis Ambraziejus Pabrėža and did not forget him. There are no flowers and no path to his grave. People even walk around the tomb, praying for help in their illnesses and earthly troubles2 J. A. Letters to Fr. J. K. Gintilai / Gidžiūnas V. Min. I'm sick. P. 264. 87
