TERMINOLOGY NOTES AND PUBLICATIONS
LATEST PUBLICATIONS OF THE “LOGO FOR SCHOOLS” PROJECT
Having begun to take an interest in Logo ideas a decade ago, Lithuania is becoming increasingly involved in this wonderful field of science. In 1995–1997, the Open Lithuania Fund took over the “Logo for Schools” project. At that time, the LogoWriter system for the DOS operating system was translated, and two textbooks were prepared. The first was a LogoWriter manual intended for both teachers and pupils. The second was a computer-based project development textbook, “I Am Learning Logo.” They were received by all Lithuanian general education schools that requested them. Currently, the two most widespread Logo programs in the world are MicroWorlds and Comenius Logo. The Comenius Logo computer program is best suited to understanding the principles of algorithm design and programming. It can be used to perform a wide variety of tasks, for example: drawing pictures, composing melodies, drawing geometric shapes, performing mathematical calculations, modelling various language processes, and so on. Two of the latest publications are devoted to this program: V. Dagienė’s “Introduction to Logo” (V., 2001, 143 p.) and the book by A. Blaho and I. Kalaš, translated by V. Dagienė and G. Dagytė, “Comenius Logo: Creative Informatics” (V., 2001, 356 p.). This book has been translated into many languages around the world. The Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania purchased a licence for the Comenius Logo system for all schools. Thanks to the well-known computer science specialist V. Dagienė, this creative informatics has reached Lithuanian schools as well.
Both books are very valuable. First of all, their language is correct. On the other hand, they are also significant from the perspective of terminology.
“Introduction to Logo” contains several glossaries: “Lithuanian–English Glossary of Comenius Logo Commands” (pp. 84–87), “English–Lithuanian Glossary of Comenius Logo Commands” (pp. 88–91), “Explanatory Glossary of the Main Comenius Logo Commands” (pp. 92–111), and the lists “Control Commands” (pp. 111–120), “Operations with Words and Lists” (pp. 120–129), “Operations with Shapes” (pp. 129–132), and “Various Important Commands” (pp. 133–142).

The two indexes in the book “Comenius Logo: Creative Informatics” will help pupils identify the main commands and get rid of jargon. In addition, the glossaries and indexes mentioned above could be included in the computer commands and software dictionary currently being compiled.
