ROBERTAS S TUNŽINAS Institute of Lithuanian Language On December 12, 2014, Mark Paura defended his dissertation at Vilnius dissertation M. Paura aims to create a Lithuanian microsystem of the term University (research consultant Prof. Dr. Nijolė Maskaliūnienė). In the computer virus and examines 177 terms in the field of computer viruses. The dissertation consists of introduction, three lectures, conclusions and recommendations, lists of resources (26 items) and literature (95 items), 22 appendices, 8 dendrograms. The annexes (more than 260 tables) provide the third-level terms related to the terms discussed in the main parts of the work and their equivalents in various languages. The introduction states that this work is new and relevant. The author, after analyzing the online computer threat compendium “Threat explorer” of the antivirus software developer “Symantec Corporation”, noticed that many English names of computer virus types do not have Lithuanian equivalents. Furthermore, it found that “in Lithuanian print and online 212 Robertas Stunžinas | in publications the concept of computer virus is not sufficiently differentiated, and the terms that convey it are often identified with other concepts and terms that denote them in the field of computer security <...>“ (p. 6). The thesis is relevant, because until now Lithuanian computer virusology terminology has been studied fragmentarily and mainly focused on the regularity of the form of terms, rather than the accuracy of the description of the content of their designating concepts. The first part of the lecture presents the concept of the main terminology used for the analysis of the research object. The second part describes the term computer virus, its characteristics and relationship with other terms used in computer virusology, such as worm, Trojan horse, macrovirus. The third part examines and describes the microsystems of terms related to the term virus in English, French and Lithuanian. As necessary, existing or proposed new definitions of Lithuanian terms are adjusted. The term computer virus hyponyms are divided according to the concepts they denote and first discuss the terms denoting the relative, then the species concepts. The 22 appendices of the dissertation contain Lithuanian and other language terms related to the terms discussed in the lecture, their synonyms and variants. 8 dendrograms show how it would be possible to represent the individual parts of the microsystem of the term computer virus according to certain distinctive features. In his conclusions, M. Paura states that the established semantic paradigmatic relationships help to create a classification scheme of the term virus, in which the relationships of terms in the subject area of computer virology are clearly visible. In addition, the new method of analysis of terminological data about concepts (bottom-up analysis) used in the dissertation revealed the possibility of studying concept systems. Also, the author found that most of the terms in this field appeared by internal borrowing from such fields as medicine, biology, law, warfare, psychology, etc. Furthermore, it is stated that the terms of the semantic field of the virus vary greatly, there are many synonyms. In the recommendations the author suggests to take into account the fact that the main concept of the microsystem virus is of non-Lithuanian origin, therefore it is necessary to use not only the resources of the own language to create terms in this field. Draws attention to the fact that we should not leave aside matters of conceptual content, suggests to refine existing conceptual systems and recommends to break down Lithuanian computer terminology in more detail. 213Terminologija | 2015 | 22 M.
