The electronic edition of the “Explanatory Dictionary of Computer Science Terms” appeared in 2015; a year later, the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of Vilnius University published a printed edition. The explanatory bilingual dictionary comprises more than 5,100 entries devoted to fundamental computer science terms that users see on a computer screen or encounter in educational materials. The dictionary presents established, widely used, and new terms reviewed by the Terminology Commission for Informatics of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics, and evaluated by computer science specialists and terminology experts. It is arranged alphabetically. Alongside each Lithuanian term, a brief definition and its English equivalent are provided. The dictionary includes synonyms, abbreviations, and corrections of nonstandard terms. The relationships of some terms to other related terms are indicated. Some entries provide additional information. Lithuanian terms are marked for stress. An English–Lithuanian term index is included at the end. The publication was prepared as part of the project “Localization of Software Relevant to the Public and Creation of Tools Needed for the Programs.” The publication of the printed dictionary was supported by the Research Council of Lithuania. The dictionary’s endorsement reads: “The State Commission of the Lithuanian Language has no objections.” The “Explanatory Dictionary of Computer Science Terms” is available on the Raštija.lt website. The definitions were prepared on the basis of management standards published in Lithuanian, university textbooks, and project management guides. The dictionary is arranged alphabetically. It includes synonyms and abbreviations. Lithuanian terms are marked for stress. At the end, it contains an alphabetical Lithuanian–English index of terms and a glossary of abbreviations. It presents the principal terms of pharmaceutical botany and pharmacognosy, their synonyms, formulas of chemical compounds found in plants, systematic (IUPAC) and nonsystematic names, and descriptions of the pharmacological effects that have been investigated. Pharmaceutical botany terms include general terms in plant anatomy, morphology, and systematics. Plant structure is described at the cellular, tissue, and organ levels. Pharmacognosy terms are based on the classification of biologically active compounds (primary and secondary metabolites), which is grounded in the chemical structure of compounds. The publication describes methods of qualitative and quantitative phytochemical analysis, instrumental analysis, and the reagents used. The textbook is intended for students of pharmacy and other biomedical specialties, practitioners in these fields, and employees of the pharmaceutical industry and research institutions. It is arranged alphabetically, although some terms are grouped under headwords. A definition, and sometimes a fuller explanation, is given alongside each Lithuanian term. Lithuanian terms are not marked for stress. Chemical formulas are provided for chemical compounds, and their structures are shown in diagrams. Synonyms are included. Equivalents in other languages are not provided. Alongside the Lithuanian names of plants mentioned in definitions, their Latin names are also given.
