372 Languages and Culture | 83 On the midday of a thick summer sun on a high hill on the foothills, we stood sadly thinking at the grave pit of a dear colleague – our first-line fellow scientist Albertas Rosinas. (1938 02 07–2010 07 23) His path of life and learning was changing like that summer – and the sun, and the rain, and the heat, and the winds, and he keeps going! Perhaps not quite scientific, but the first thing that comes to mind are the words of Prince Hamlet, with which he described his father, who was brutally murdered: It was a real man! Hamlet corrects his friend Horace's assessment: There was a great king! A pupil who has stopped a young teacher from being beaten is beaten by teenage hooligans. Spiritually murdered by party rascals. Half of his scientific life separated from the student humanities, pushed from science, the tenacious Lithuanian from Žemaitija firmly entered it with his most serious works. only the shadow of honor delayed after merit. but he did. Among the otherwise not entirely poor studies of pronouns by several linguists, Albertas Rosinas’s six books stand out monumentally – the structure of pronouns in Lithuanian and all Baltic languages: semantics, J. Klimovich. albertas rosinas 373 Semantic and morphological structure of pronouns in the Lithuanian language. the seventh book is unique – from Latvian studies. three dictionaries of construction terms (with contributors). but again – a totally bookless person in the presence of Rosin (and quite publicly anyway) muttered: “wow, Crystal wrote 100” (by the way, I think that’s the number of publications, not works). Albert has said: „Sometimes I say to myself: Albert, be a man!“ but he did not always respond to the insult: Colleague, be a man! But – I repeat – he was always a true man in his own, Lithuanian language and Lithuania’s troubles, struggles, work, stumblings and rises. everywhere – among the first, often – the very first: with academic papers (with degrees and titles) and as a leader – head of the department, the soul of a large group of Baltic students, chairman of the Language Commission and its productive worker, president of the Lithuanian Language Society. The heads of the Vilnius Institute of Civil Engineering (now Vilnius Gediminas Technical University) employed the full-time Lithuanian language teacher to create and standardize construction terminology, and after noticing his non-full-time language research works, he was sent to doctoral studies. Each employee of this bar is especially grateful to Him for the authoritative encouragement and understanding and appreciation of the efforts put in. A collection of articles in this field would best illustrate His problematics, methodology and argumentation. He does not forget that he took on the most difficult, most invasive language subjects. And looked consistently, striving to fight tenaciously. For example, in 1971 he published a considerable article “What does it mean to dehumanize a person” (Mūsų kalba, No. 4, pp. 14–17), and perhaps about 2006 he talked to me about this as a difficult thing to do, but one that must be corrected. In the booklet “Only please, without hysteria” he publicly revealed to his colleagues a cherished trait of his style – a talent for humour and irony. only does not forget that it was not taken from the good life, but that the language is made without any shame and conscience, and from the criticism of linguists is protected by the shields of ambition. was the irresistible slogan of language culture fighters Against ambitions! The slogan is gone and the ambitions are gone. Both the people and the linguist community are thrown with angry accusations. the fellowship of the living and the dead is remembered on the occasion of the farewell to the deceased or does it not oblige to live in peace?
