INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM “ADVANCED RESEARCH IN ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS MANAGEMENT”, SEPTEMBER 19, 2025 859 THE ROLE OF DIGITAL TWINS AND AUTOMATION IN BUILDING SUSTAINABLE INDUSTRIAL ECOSYSTEMS Zagidullina Kamila Rafailovna Tashkent State Technical University, Senior Lecturer (PhD) https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.17317711 Abstract. The article examines the role of the digital economy as a key driver of modern development, influencing almost all spheres of human activity. Particular attention is paid to the processes of digitalization, the introduction of innovative technologies, and the integration of environmental aspects into economic practice. The study highlights the importance of innovation as a combination of invention and implementation, as well as the role of “green” enterprises in achieving sustainable development goals. Additionally, the paper analyzes the evolution of automation systems in metallurgical production and the challenges associated with the increasing capacity of metallurgical equipment. Keywords: Digital economy, digitalization, innovation, sustainability, green enterprises, big data, artificial intelligence, Industry 4.0, automation, metallurgy. The digital economy is a powerful driver that affects almost all areas of activity. During the Industrial Revolution, the main resources for introducing new market ideas were gasoline, conveyor belts, and human ingenuity. Product quality, prices, and logistics played a key role in market development, as companies sought to provide customers with better products faster. The main goal is to achieve environmental sustainability, economic growth, and social well-being by integrating environmental aspects into economic activity. Innovation is the process of developing and implementing ideas that improve the ways tasks are performed or help achieve better results. The digital economy encompasses activities related to the creation, distribution, and application of digital technologies for collecting, storing, processing, searching, transmitting, and presenting data in electronic form, as well as all related products and services.[1] Two key aspects should be highlighted: digitalization and the digital economy. Digitalization is a complex, multi-level process that includes transforming production and management technologies, as well as information resources, so that they become compatible with modern digital devices and technologies. The main goals of this process are as follows: first, cost reduction and increased reliability in the collection, systematization, transmission, and analysis of data, which is achieved through the use of technologies such as the Internet of Things and, primarily, the use of RFID tags that provide effective tracking and asset management. Second, reducing costs and simplifying communication processes both in the economy and in society. This includes digitizing content and optimizing communication channels, making interaction faster and more convenient. Third, developing a system that enables multilateral interactions between people and business processes, contributing to more efficient collaboration and information exchange both within organizations and between them through inter-organizational digital platforms. Digitalization, like informatization and automation, represents a major megatrend in economic development, according to J. Naisbitt. It is based on cybernetic methods, big data analysis tools, and artificial intelligence. When the level of digitalization in a business process or company reaches a critical point, it leads to a qualitative transformation characterized by increased efficiency. Success in innovation is not a random or magical phenomenon but rather the result of consistent and purposeful actions. This can be expressed by a simple formula: innovation = invention + implementation.[2] Innovation arises at the intersection of invention and implementation. True innovations are the result of the gradual adaptation of human experience, taking into account new approaches, processes, and INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM “ADVANCED RESEARCH IN ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS MANAGEMENT”, SEPTEMBER 19, 2025 860 technologies. In this concept, invention means creating a new solution that meets consumer needs. At the same time, implementation is associated with applying this new solution to change human behavior and interaction. To achieve the optimal balance between invention and implementation, it is important to iterate, make data-driven decisions, and continuously learn and develop critical thinking. Modern technologies are also necessary, as they open up many opportunities for learning in the digital economy. “Green” enterprises strive to generate profit without harming the environment, the community, or society as a whole. They implement various practices that contribute to nature conservation. Examples include: − reducing the volume of industrial waste; − minimizing or completely eliminating the use of harmful chemicals; − creating environmentally friendly workplaces; − safe disposal of hazardous materials; − using renewable energy sources; − reducing paper and packaging consumption; − reusing materials and applying recycled resources.[3] These measures help not only preserve the environment but also support sustainable business development. Automation systems in metallurgical production have a long history, but their application has undergone significant changes over the years. Initially, automation was focused mainly on individual units and equipment. However, with the development of information technology, automation began to cover not only machine equipment but also the entire production cycle, including the enterprise’s business processes. Fig. 2. IT Trends in the Mining and Metallurgical Industry for 2024 [4] The experience of both domestic and global metallurgy shows that increasing the capacity of metallurgical equipment brings new technical and economic challenges associated with the specific technologies used. When failures occur in powerful metallurgical furnaces or mills, the consequences for the production process can be much more serious than the breakdown of lower-capacity equipment. Increasing production capacity creates additional psychological pressure on operational and maintenance personnel, which may reduce the likelihood of making adequate and timely managerial decisions. Under conditions of high workload and responsibility, it becomes more difficult for employees to effectively cope with emerging problems, which highlights the importance of implementing comprehensive automated solutions to improve the reliability and resilience of production. Unfortunately, it is often the unjustified actions of personnel that become the cause of a high share of defective metallurgical products. As part of its digital transformation program, Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex (AMMC) is implementing a number of strategic initiatives aimed at automating and enhancing the intelligence of production processes: − Digital Twin of production – a system for modeling production processes that enables forecasting of outcomes and reducing risks. − ERP systems – comprehensive software solutions for enterprise resource management, cost INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM “ADVANCED RESEARCH IN ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS MANAGEMENT”, SEPTEMBER 19, 2025 861 reduction, and improved operational transparency. − IoT (Internet of Things) – deployment of sensors and smart monitoring systems to enhance equipment safety and efficiency. − Big Data and analytics – utilization of big data for optimizing production processes and demand forecasting. − Automation of mining and beneficiation – application of robotic systems and automated conveyor lines to increase productivity. [5] Digital twins utilize real-time data, enabling them to adapt to changes and predict the behavior of an object more accurately. As a result, they become a powerful tool for analyzing and optimizing processes, allowing for well-informed decision-making based on precise information. Thus, the digital twin acts as a bridge between the physical world and its virtual counterpart, opening up new opportunities for innovative research and development across various fields while ensuring synchronization between them. The primary goal of a digital twin is to simulate possible impact scenarios on the original under different conditions. This capability significantly reduces time and financial costs, particularly in cases involving complex and expensive equipment. Additionally, it helps prevent potential harm to human health and the environment. To reduce costs and take measures to decrease energy consumption, a model for implementing digital twins at the enterprise has been introduced. Energy efficiency initiatives can also lead to significant reductions in emissions. The planned modernization, aimed at lowering natural gas consumption, will focus on the filtration process of zinc and lead cake in the waelz kiln shop. Additionally, upgrading the compressor station in the energy workshop by installing modern, energy-efficient compressors will provide an opportunity to significantly optimize energy consumption. This improvement will not only reduce overall energy costs but also enhance the reliability of the equipment. The implementation of energy-efficient solutions will help cut carbon emissions and minimize the negative environmental impact, marking an important step toward the sustainable development of the enterprise. As a result, these measures will contribute to the overall efficiency of production processes and improve the company's economic performance. The green economy and the digital economy are closely interconnected, as technologies make it possible to reduce environmental impacts and build a more sustainable industry. The development of “green” innovations in industry, transport, agriculture, and construction contributes to shaping a sustainable future, while digitalization enables more efficient management of environmental and economic processes. Table 1 Risks of Digitalization Implementation [6] Risk Description Mitigation Measures High costs Large capital investments Government subsidies, investors Shortage of staff Lack of qualified specialists Training, partnerships with universities Cyber threats Attacks on IT infrastructure Cybersecurity systems Thus, digitalization and innovation play a key role in the development of AMMC, enabling the complex to remain a leader in Uzbekistan’s mining and metallurgical industry and to successfully compete in the global market. Automation and the introduction of digital technologies have always raised concerns that they may displace jobs. However, digital twins create new opportunities for the labor market, especially for INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM “ADVANCED RESEARCH IN ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS MANAGEMENT”, SEPTEMBER 19, 2025 862 specialists with skills in working with modern technologies. Innovations such as AI, augmented reality, and quantum computing will continue to expand the capabilities of digital twins, providing new tools for optimizing production and improving management. In the future, digital twins will become an even more important element of enterprises’ digital transformation, helping to build environmentally sustainable and highly efficient industrial ecosystems. Innovation and digital transformation play a key role in the development of modern industry. The use of advanced technologies enables enterprises to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and adapt to changing market conditions. However, the process of implementing digital solutions requires significant investment, qualified specialists, and carefully designed strategies. Despite the existing challenges, industrial digitalization opens up vast prospects, making production more flexible, sustainable, and competitive in the global economy. It is known that financing of innovative and investment activities of enterprises based on corporate management is one of the most pressing issues today. That is why modern effective sources of investment are based on public-private partnership programs. [7]. REFERENCES 1. Schuh, G., Anderl, R., & Gausemeier, J. (2017).
