Contact FAIR Training material: Achievements and the Road Ahead in ELIXIR What is FAIR Training? FAIR Training aims to implement FAIR principles to training materials, making them more Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR). FAIR training materials are easier to find, (re)use, adapt and sustain over time. The first rule—to share—is the central starting point; the Findability rules include description, identity, and registration; the latter two, together with access rules, correspond to Accessibility; Interoperability stands on its own, with one rule about formats; the remaining four rules cover different aspects of Reusability. Ten simple rules for making training materials FAIR https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.8239503 The FAIR Training Handbook is an extensive handbook with practical and detailed suggestions on ways how to make training materials FAIR. It can be used to support training sessions on this topic. FAIR Training Handbook Overview of activities & outcomes Initially, the group was concentrated in two tasks, to develop training based on the FAIR principles and to Make training materials FAIR. An inventory of Training Materials about FAIR became available followed by a list of activities and outcomes were also, including publications, a handbook, connection with communities outside ELIXIR (GOBLET, Carpentries etc) and of course contribution into many conferences and events. The paper “Ten Simple rules for making training materials FAIR” is implemented and recognized by many networks, and the “FAIR Training Handbook” is the practical reference for making training materials FAIR and has been refereed in more the 10 websites as a guideline including EMBL, VIB, SIB, Australian biocommons and others. Also there is the The ELIXIR FAIR training material by Design course based on the on the FAIR training handbook and 10 simple rules to make material FAIR publication. FAIR Training Work Group of the Training Platform From May 2025 onwards, the FAIR Training Focus Group continued as the FAIR Training working group, working inside the Training Platform of ELIXIR bringing together experts and practitioners improving how life sciences training material is created, shared and reused. The Working group concentrates on a concrete strategy to adopt processes to make training materials FAIR, both within ELIXIR as well as in the wider context of the EOSC Ecosystem. It promotes resources that facilitate the adoption of the FAIR principles for training and offers catalogues of tools that can be used to facilitate FAIRification of training and provide requirements and guidance to help adoption. This is accompanied by outreach activities inside and outside ELIXIR with presentations, meetings, workshops or other activities. Join the FAIR training working group Figure 1.
