INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTERDISCIPLINARY SCIENCE Volume 02, Issue 10, 2025 149 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTERDISCIPLINARY SCIENCE universalconference.us THE ROLE OF VOCAL ART AS A MEANS OF COMMUNICATION Sadriddin Niyozovich Gulov Bukhara State Pedagogical Institute Abstract This article analyzes the role and importance of vocal art as a means of communication between people. Music, especially vocal performance, is the most natural expression of human emotions, through which emotions, mental state, culture and values are conveyed. Vocal art, as a communicative process, serves to form a person's artistic thinking, aesthetic taste, emotional expression and social consciousness. Keywords: vocal art, means of communication, emotional expression, artistic thinking, musical communication. Introduction. Each stage of human development is closely related to art, which is manifested as the highest social phenomenon expressing the human psyche, thoughts, feelings. In this process, musical art, in particular, vocal performance, has become the most natural, sincere form of spiritual connection and communication between people. The human voice is a natural musical instrument through which a person expresses his feelings, inner experiences, love, sorrow and dreams. Vocal art, by its very nature, is an art of communication. Because it finds its way from the human heart to the human heart through the harmony of words, melody and feeling. Each vocal work is an expression of emotional information, an internal state in musical form. Therefore, during vocal performance, the performer does not just sing a song, but also conducts emotional, artistic and aesthetic communication with the listener. In today's globalization, in an era of increasing intercultural dialogue and exchange of aesthetic values, the importance of vocal art is increasing. Because vocal works transcend the boundaries of nations, cultures and eras and become an artistic language that unites humanity. The relevance of studying the role of vocal art as a means of communication is that it is directly related to the formation of communicative competence in modern music education, art history and cultural studies. For each vocalist, the voice is not only a technical opportunity, but also a means of establishing spiritual communication with people. Therefore, a deep study of the communicative essence of vocal art serves not only to improve the quality of performance, but also the artistic outlook, emotional thinking and cultural level of the individual.
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTERDISCIPLINARY SCIENCE Volume 02, Issue 10, 2025 150 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTERDISCIPLINARY SCIENCE universalconference.us Literature analysis. Scientific research on vocal art and its role in communication was formed at the intersection of music pedagogy, psychology and art history, and is aimed at illuminating the artistic, aesthetic and communicative essence of the human voice. First of all, the communicative nature of vocal performance has been widely studied by Western scientists. C. Seashore (1938) in his work “Psychology of Music” emphasizes that the vocal voice is a direct expression of human emotions, and it has a deeper emotional impact than words. R. Erickson (1982) called the voice an “emotional signal system” and scientifically substantiated the creation of emotional resonance in the human mind through vocal performance. J. Roden (2018) in his work “Choral Conducting and Communication” touches on the importance of communication culture in the process of vocal and choral performance, emphasizing the importance of emotional connection, voice harmony and mutual trust between the conductor and the performers. At the same time, L. Gaver (2015) in his study “Voice as Communication: The Human Instrument” analyzes the human voice as a means of social communication and justifies the naturalness, individuality and artistic value of the voice. According to the “theory of emotional intelligence” put forward by A. Damasio (2010), the expression of human emotions in musical form is a natural form of the mechanism of emotional communication between the individual and society. This theory allows us to understand the psychological foundations of vocal art in more depth. Local scientists have also paid great attention to the educational, aesthetic and communicative aspects of vocal art. In particular, M. Abdullayev (2019) in his work “Fundamentals of Music Pedagogy” shows the role of vocal art in the formation of emotional communication between the student and the teacher. According to him, the harmonious development of communication culture and aesthetic taste in the process of vocal education is directly related to the pedagogical skills of the teacher. D. Karimova in her work “Vocal Performance and Stage Culture” deeply analyzes the communicative significance of the vocalist’s voice technique, stage movement and non-verbal means of expression. According to the author, vocal art is a “wordless conversation”, in which voice, intonation and emotion become the main means of communication. S. Yusupov, in his work “The Art of Music and the Theory of Culture”, highlights the socio-cultural essence of vocal art, emphasizing the formation of national values, historical memory and cultural identification processes through it. In his opinion, vocal works are “audible history” that expresses the spiritual culture of the people.
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTERDISCIPLINARY SCIENCE Volume 02, Issue 10, 2025 151 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTERDISCIPLINARY SCIENCE universalconference.us Also, in her article, Boymurodova D. draws attention to the educational significance of vocal art, emphasizing that vocal works purify the human soul, strengthen cultural unity and are an important tool in forming the aesthetic worldview of young people. Many researchers (for example, M. Halliday, K. Johnson, A. Vygotsky) evaluate vocal art as a phenomenon closely related to language and communication. In their opinion, in vocal performance, language goes beyond words and acquires a new meaning through emotions - this process determines the essence of "aesthetic communication". An analysis of foreign and domestic literature shows that: • Vocal art is a system that expresses human emotions in musical form and serves social communication; • It has a strong pedagogical, psychological and cultural impact on the development of the individual; • Vocal performance is an artistic means of emotional communication rather than technical skill; • The development of communicative competence and aesthetic thinking in the process of studying vocal art is of great importance. Thus, an analysis of the existing scientific literature shows that the study of the communicative, emotional and aesthetic functions of vocal art is one of the most relevant scientific directions today. It creates the basis for interpreting art not only as an artistic activity, but also as a means of communication, emotional harmony and cultural integration between people. The communicative nature of vocal art. Vocal art is based on the natural capabilities of the human voice. Voice is the most ancient and natural means of human communication. Long before speech, man expressed his feelings through melody, screams, and singing. In this sense, vocal performance is a musical form of emotion, a process of emotional information exchange. Through vocal art, a person expresses his inner world, influences other people, and enters into spiritual contact with them. Vocal works, especially folk songs, religious theological melodies, or opera, are an expression of the national spirit, historical memory, and cultural values in the form of communication. Communicative functions of vocal art. In vocal performance, communication occurs in several stages: • Communication between the performer and the work - in this process, the performer feels the composer's idea, passes it through his spiritual world; • Communication between the performer and the listener - in this case, the vocalist conveys emotions and meaning through his voice;
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTERDISCIPLINARY SCIENCE Volume 02, Issue 10, 2025 152 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTERDISCIPLINARY SCIENCE universalconference.us • Communication between the work and the social environment - through vocal performance, national, spiritual, aesthetic values are instilled in the consciousness of society. All these stages increase the socio-cultural significance of vocal art. Because it teaches a person to understand himself, to feel others, to perceive humanity more deeply. Vocal expression and non-verbal communication. Despite the fact that vocal art is a type of verbal music, its basis is largely non-verbal means of expression. Voice timbre, strength, intonation, breathing, articulation, stage position - all these are forms of wordless but meaningful communication. On stage, the performer conveys meaning to the listener not only with his voice, but also through body language, facial expressions, and gaze. Therefore, the role of nonverbal expression in vocal art is very important - it enriches the emotional power of the word, increases the emotional perception of the listener. Pedagogical and cultural significance of vocal art. Attention to the culture of communication in the process of teaching vocal art forms the aesthetic worldview of students. The student learns not only singing techniques, but also how to manage his emotions, establish contact with the audience, and stage culture. Also, vocal art is a form of communication that conveys the rich heritage of national culture and folk oral art to the new generation. Through folk songs, classical songs, opera and pop directions, artistic taste, spiritual unity and aesthetic values are strengthened in society. Conclusion. Vocal art is one of the most artistic and emotional forms of human communication. It allows a person to express his inner experiences, dreams and aspirations, love, joy, sorrow and hopes in the most natural way. Therefore, vocal art is not only a creative activity, but also the most sincere means of spiritual connection between people, emotional communication. Through vocal performance, a unique psychological connection is established between the performer and the listener, which further increases the educational, aesthetic and cultural significance of art. Therefore, in the process of teaching vocal art, special attention should be paid not only to technical skills, but also to communicative culture, emotional expression and stage speech. In general, vocal art: 1. Enriches communication as a natural form of expression of human emotions; 2. Provides artistic and spiritual connection between the performer and the listener; 3. Forms cultural values, national heritage and aesthetic taste; 4. Serves to develop the artistic thinking and social consciousness of the individual.
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTERDISCIPLINARY SCIENCE Volume 02, Issue 10, 2025 153 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTERDISCIPLINARY SCIENCE universalconference.us When teaching vocal art in the educational system, it is necessary to pay attention to its communicative essence. Because the main task of the vocalist is to convey not only music, but also emotions, content and spiritual energy through the voice. Therefore, emotional intelligence, non-verbal expression, stage speech and communication culture are of fundamental importance in the process of vocal performance. In short, vocal art is the voice of the human heart, a means of spiritual communication between people and the most natural form of cultural unity. It goes beyond the boundaries of words and directly appeals to feelings. Therefore, every vocal performer should understand their voice not only as a technical tool, but also as a language of human communication, love and peace. Therefore, the role of vocal art as a means of communication remains a relevant scientific direction not only from the point of view of art history, but also for the fields of pedagogy, cultural studies and psychology.
