AI-Powered Copy-Editor for DOA Journal Workflows

Yastrebov, Vladislav

Abstract

We present a Python-based AI copy-editor that automates rule-based checks on \LaTeX manuscripts for Diamond Open Access (OA) journals. Built with LangChain and optional RAG integration, it corrects typos, inspects equations, figures, tables, and references, while preserving the author’s style. By cutting copy-editing costs to a few euro-cents per article (or to electricity alone if run locally) it enables sustainable editorial workflows. Already deployed in the Journal of Theoretical, Computational and Applied Mechanics, the tool automates over 90 % of routine tasks. Released under the Diamond OA Software License (DOASL), it is freely shareable and designed for broad adoption across the Diamond OA community.
