A study of pulsating AGB stars powered by Rubin-LSST-driven collaborations

Abstract

Low- to intermediate-mass stars end their lives displaying long-period pulsation, a key evolutionary ingredient with powerful astrophysical applications. The 10-years Rubin-LSST survey will enable new scientific exploitation of these stars, requiring solid theoretical support. I will present ongoing work based on hydrodynamical pulsation coupled with resolved stellar population synthesis tools, an approach successfully applied to study the period-luminosity (PL) and period-age relations of Mira variables, and to characterize the interplay between stellar evolution, pulsation, and mass loss. A comprehensive upgrade of the models is being pursued with computational resources made available by the University of Rijeka, via a collaboration developed throughout LSST@Europe meetings. I will present the status of this work, its planned outputs (focusing on Rubin-LSST-related products), and the expected impact, from the characterization of pulsating carbon stars to the metallicity dependence of the Mira PL relation.
