Send your Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM) to the OA team and they will make it OA in LSERO with a CC BY 4.0 licence (green OA) Apply for Gold OA funding from the Library Publishing your work open access (OA) means making it freely available for anyone to read and reuse. The benefits of OA include: y Wider readership and greater impact – your work reaches more people, both inside and outside academia. y More equitable access to knowledge, especially for those without access to paywalled scholarly content. y Compliance with funder OA requirements – including Research Excellence Framework (REF) and UKRI policies. This is a step-by-step guide on how to make your publications OA as an LSE staff member or PhD student. Before submission Check REF and funder OA requirements. All LSE researchers must make sure their publications comply with the REF OA policy. Research funders may also have different requirements for grant holders around licencing, funding acknowledgement and data availability. See our REF and funder requirements page for support. Include your ORCID in the publisher’s submission system to boost visibility and discoverability. Use your LSE email address to ensure eligibility for LSE’s transformative agreements. Include a Data Access Statement in your submission to inform the readers about how to access the associated data and to comply with funder requirements. At acceptance Deposit your Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM) in LSERO. Once accepted, email your AAM and acceptance date to Lser[email protected]. The Open Access team will create a record and make the manuscript OA in accordance with LSE’s Open Access Policy. If your paper is subsequently published Gold OA, the open access team will update the record with the Version of Record (VOR). Select a Creative Commons (CC) licence. If you are being supported to publish Gold OA by LSE or a research funder, choose the CC BY 4.0 licence. This is the most permissive Creative Commons licence. It allows others to share, adapt, and reuse your work (including commercially) as long as they credit you. Note: if your article is not eligible for Gold OA support, selecting a CC licence may result in an Article Processing Charge (APC). Contact the Open Access team if you need help. At publication Check the licence to ensure your chosen licence has been applied (we recommend CC BY 4.0), and the published version is OA. Share your article on academic networks, add it to your public profiles and promote it on social media. Open Access glossary Article Processing Charge (APC): A fee paid to the publisher to make an article openly accessible under the gold open access model. Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM): The version of an article that has been peer-reviewed and accepted for publication but has not yet been typeset or copyedited by the publisher. Creative Commons licence: A standardised license enabling authors to retain copyright while clearly defining permissions for reuse, sharing, and adaptation of their work. Transformative agreement: An agreement that redirects institutional subscription fees to cover open access publishing costs, removing the need for authors to pay individual APCs for Gold OA.
