Introducing the OPERAS-NL National Node: to support open scholarly communication in the social sciences and humanities (SSH)
Abstract
The OAPEN Foundation and the KNAW Humanities Cluster are delighted to announce a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on the launch of OPERAS-NL National Node. OPERAS is the European Research Infrastructure (RI) dedicated to supporting open scholarly communication in the social sciences and humanities (SSH) within the European Research Area. Its mission is to coordinate and integrate European resources to address the needs of researchers in SSH. National Nodes are essential structural elements within OPERAS RI, serving as key connection points between European-level coordination and local research communities. They ensure that local needs and perspectives are integrated into broader European initiatives, facilitating the internationalisation of research without losing diverse cultures, languages and traditions of scholarly practices. This poster outlines the benefits to SSH researchers and institutions participating in OPERAS-NL and will present a draft programme of OPERAS-NL events for 2025/26. Researchers in the Netherlands will benefit from tailored training on OPERAS services. For example: PRISM (Peer Review Information Service for Monographs): a standardised way for academic publishers to display information about their peer review processes, providing transparency and building trust around open access book publishing GoTriple: a multilingual platform tailored for the exploration of SSH research, offering tools that streamline the discovery of scholarly content and facilitate academic collaboration The European Diamond Capacity Hub (EDCH): a collective that provides services for Diamond Open Access Publishers, Service Providers, and Tools & Technology Providers VERA: facilitating participatory research by allowing SSH researchers and other engaged stakeholders to find partners, appropriate tools, and funding opportunities to build projects and foster collaboration. Dutch researchers will have the opportunity to highlight research and trigger new discussion at other National Node events. By working together, we can strengthen our National Node and reinforce its pivotal role in achieving the connection between European and national infrastructures. OAPEN is dedicated to OA, peer-reviewed books operating three platforms: OAPEN Library, OAPEN OA Books Toolkit, and Directory of OA Books in partnership with OpenEdition. The KNAW Humanities Cluster is focused on connecting people, research, data and collections, fostering innovative humanities research and building sustainable infrastructure.
