Before we START Do you know where your own dataset from 5 years ago is? Have you heard of the FAIR principles? If you went on sabbatical tomorrow, could another researcher reproduce your work using only what you’ve published? Do you know what FAIR stands for? Would you trust a scientific paper that doesn’t make the data available? What is FAIR? DATA & CODE SHARING Research data, code and materials shared in a research data repository in line with FAIR principles for minimum 10 years MINIMUM REQUIREMENT Deposition of the numerical data underlying the figures in academic papers and PhD theses ACCESS TRANSPARENCY If data not deposited in a repository, publications should include a statement detailing the existence of additional materials, reasons for restricted access, and conditions for use. CONFIDENTIALITY AND COMPLIANCE Personal and confidential data must be managed in accordance with GDPR, and any confidentiality agreements with third parties must be upheld. PHD RESPONSIBILITY PhD candidates are expected to ensure that all data and code underlying their theses are documented and accessible for 10 years, following FAIR principles, unless sharing is not feasible.
