EMERGE Open Access - Dilemma What would you do? Dilemma 1 A researcher from another country you met and sympathized with in an international conference contacts you to ask if you want to contribute to a special issue of a journal he coordinates. The issue is in your domain of expertise, you accept, and submit a paper which is accepted. You discover then that you must pay an APC which you had not anticipated. What do you do ? Dilemma 2 You used ChatGPT to correct the grammar, produce keywords and an abstract in English for your paper. Do you have to make this known to the publisher of the journal you submit to ? Do you cite ChatGPT as an author ? Dilemma 3 One of the graphs you prepared as an illustration for your article is difficult to read. Your husband/wife wants to help and advises you to change colors and suppress isolated extreme values which oblige to have a very large scale, and concentrate on the main group of values. Do you follow his/her advice ? Dilemma 4 3 years ago you wrote an article with another researcher of your lab ; it was well received in your discipline, although at the time both of you chose not to put it in open access. Your colleague has since retired in Portugal, and you have no means to reach him. You want a promotion and need to put the full text of the article in your institutional open archive, which the publisher policy enables, in order to boost your candidature. This time, you can choose between submitting your paper to an open access highly prestigious journal with a rigorous review process, a very low acceptance rate and a long publication wait time, or to a less well-known open access journal that guarantees quick and broad dissemination of your work. What's your personal strategy? Dilemma 7 You are the editorial board of a well known journal published by Elsevier. It is currently hybrid (traditional but optional open access article with an APC of 4000 €). Elsevier asks you if you accept a flip to full Open Access (all articles in Open Access with APCs). What are the pros and cons, and what do you do ?
