About The climate system is changing rapidly and some regions have seen increases in extremes beyond what is expected from climate model simulations. To support targeted climate adaptation strategies, EXPECT will enable trustworthy assessments and predictions of regional climate change including extremes by developing a prototype operational capability for integrated attribution and prediction of climate. This ambitious goal is closely aligned with the WCRP Lighthouse Activity on Explaining and Predicting Earth System Change. EXPECT will identify and quantify the mechanisms by which physical processes govern regional climatic changes, including extremes, on inter-annual to multi-decadal time scales. It will do so by exploiting newly available climate simulations and Earth Observations (EOs), and by combining machine learning (ML) with physical methods. The research will target fundamental knowledge gaps related to atmospheric circulation and land-atmosphere interactions, which represent major limitations in current climate predictions and projections, and in particular in understanding changes in European summer extremes. To underpin the research, and benefiting the wider research community, EXPECT will develop tools to efficiently analyse a variety of large data sets in combination that are hosted in different repositories across institutions. This will facilitate the exploitation of recent investments into high-resolution climate models and EO data. EXPECT will further build data science capacity for the scientifically robust, efficient and reproducible analysis of the massive data assets, including novel ML approaches, and provide training for the climate science community and the next generation of researchers in particular. EXPECT will thus deliver significant scientific and technological advances for society and the climate science community that will last well beyond the project, in support of WCRP’s strategic objectives. Executive summary This deliverable provides a comprehensive description of the visual identity of EXPECT, developed during the first three months of the project. Developing a visual identity is crucial because it fosters brand recognition, conveys professionalism, and differentiates the project in a competitive landscape. A consistent and cohesive visual identity enhances credibility, making the project more memorable and trustworthy to stakeholders and the target audience. Additionally, it helps communicate the project's values and mission effectively, creating an emotional connection and ensuring that the project's essence is conveyed clearly across various platforms.
1. Introduction This deliverable provides a comprehensive description of the visual identity of EXPECT, developed during the first three months of the project (related to Task 11.1.: Project identity, website and social media). Consortium partners can refer to this deliverable, as well as the visual identity guide found in the internal project repository (on Wiki), to align all material produced according to the project ‘brand’. 2. Visual identity This section provides a detailed description of our visual identity, encompassing the project logo, colour palette, typography, and templates. 2.1 Logo Our logo is an artistic interpretation of the Rossby Wave Patterns over the North Pole, capturing the undulating nature of these atmospheric waves. The logo is intended for use on all documents, reports, deliverables and other material produced in the project. Thus, the logo is designed for versatility, ensuring a professional and consistent look across all documents, reports, deliverables, and other project materials.
For optimal visibility, there are versions of the logo tailored for both light and dark backgrounds. Below there are examples of good and incorrect logo usage: Additionally, an icon version of the logo is available for use in space-constrained cases, ensuring brand recognition even in minimal contexts like social media profiles:
All communication related to the project must acknowledge EU support and display the European flag and funding statement and include the following disclaimer: Funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or [name of the granting authority]. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them. For instance, since X has a 160-character limit for profile information, we recommend using the following sentence as your bio or alternatively pinned tweet/post: This project receives funding from the European Union #HorizonEU Research and Innovation Programme. Any related tweets reflect only the views of the project owner.
2.2 Colour palette The color palette for EXPECT features primary colours of dark blue, light blue, and green. These will be complemented by secondary colours— red, yellow, purple, turquoise, pink, and bright green— to add vibrancy and flexibility, ensuring a consistent and dynamic brand presence across all materials.
