DIAGNOSIS AND CLASSIFICATION OF NOCTURNAL ENURESIS
Abstract
Neurologists often struggle to determine whether enuresis in a particular case is a neurological pathology or falls under the expertise of other specialists, such as urologists, gynecologists, or andrologists. Due to diagnostic difficulties, treatment effectiveness may be compromised, and patients may sometimes receive treatment from inappropriate specialists. Our objective was to establish diagnostic criteria for nocturnal enuresis, identify its types, and develop a classification.

Khudoyberdiev, M.Sh. Jalilova, Sh.Kh. Jalilov The issue of nocturnal enuresis is one of the pressing problems in modern neurology. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.17610822 Neurologists often struggle to determine whether enuresis in a particular case is a neurological pathology or falls under the expertise of other specialists, such as urologists, gynecologists, or andrologists. Due to diagnostic difficulties, treatment effectiveness may be compromised, and patients may sometimes receive treatment from inappropriate specialists. Our objective was to establish diagnostic criteria for nocturnal enuresis, identify its types, and develop a classification. To achieve this, we analyzed the medical histories of 394 patients who presented complaints of nocturnal enuresis from 2009 to 2024 at the "Sog‘lom Turmush" and "Isbotli Tibbiyot" clinics. Observations were conducted over the past five years to assess the recurrence of this condition. For effective analysis, patients were categorized into age groups ranging from 4 to 32 years, based on generally accepted principles of morpho-functional development in children and adults: 1. 4-7 years – 32.5% (128 patients) 2. 8-12 years – 34.8% (137 patients) 3. 13-16 years – 17.9% (70 patients) 4. 17-21 years – 8.1% (33 patients) 5. 22-32 years – 6.7% (26 patients) Among all studied cases, 28.3% were first-time patients seeking medical attention. Diagnostic Methods To refine the diagnosis and classify nocturnal enuresis, the following specialist examinations and diagnostic tests were conducted: 1. Specialist consultations based on a pre-developed protocol, involving: Pediatricians Therapists Urologists Psychologists Neurologists 2. General blood and urine analysis 3. MRI of the brain and lumbar spine 4. Ultrasound of the kidneys and bladder 5. Additional individual tests as required Classification of Nocturnal Enuresis Based on the analysis of this scientific data, a classification of nocturnal enuresis has been developed. (If the classification details are available, they should be added here for completeness.)
