The display of settings and certain operations differ between Mac and Windows. If you are looking for a setting on a Mac, you can search for it in “Help.” Word basic settings •Paragraph On Mac On Windows CC-BY – Bibliothèque de Sorbonne Université - 2025 Paragraph is used to set the formatting of a selected portion of text (color, font, indentation, spacing, etc.). These settings are applied locally to the selection and are not saved for reuse. 3

Styles allow you to save formatting (color, font, indentation, spacing, etc.) so that you can apply it to different parts of the text. Create styles CC-BY – Bibliothèque de Sorbonne Université - 2025 On Mac… on Windows. 8

Specify the outline level of your styles (4.) linked to your headings so that you can then configure the table of contents (e.g., Part à level 1; Chapter àlevel 2). On Windows After inserting side-aligned page numbering, check “Different odd and even pages.” The numbering of odd-numbered pages will disappear. Simply insert new numbering on the first odd-numbered page, with the numbering on the opposite side to even-numbered pages. 18

To modify it, click on “Custom Table of Contents” again. To update the table of contents. You can choose to update it completely, or just the page numbers. 22

Insert notes CC-BY – Bibliothèque de Sorbonne Université - 2025 Footnotes appear at the bottom of the page where they are inserted. Endnotes appear at the very end of the document. To display them at the end of sections, add section breaks at the end of each section (1.), and set the endnotes to appear at the end of the section (2.).
