Evolving Roles of Astronomy Libraries in the Digital Era: IUCAA's Transformative Journey (1989-2025) §Poster abstract: Astronomy libraries are undergoing significant transformations in the digital era, exemplified by the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) Library in Pune, India. Since its establishment in 1989, the IUCAA Library has transitioned from a traditional repository to a dynamic, hybrid information center integrating advanced digital technologies. Key developments include the adoption of electronic resources, creation of digital infrastructure like institutional repositories, and participation in collaborative projects such as the Virtual Observatory India. The library has automated cataloging and lending processes, implemented electronic resource management systems, and expanded services through Web 2.0 platforms. Looking forward, the IUCAA Library plans to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies to enhance information retrieval, automate metadata generation, and provide personalized user experiences. These initiatives aim to streamline library services and support the broader research community in managing complex astronomical data. This case study offers valuable insights for special libraries worldwide adapting to the rapidly evolving landscape of scholarly communication.
