THE IMPACT OF THE BALANCE BETWEEN RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AND MORAL KNOWLEDGE ON PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

This article examines the influence of religious views—which today exert a direct impact on human psychology—on social life and moral consciousness. It highlights how the erosion of religious, spiritual, and moral values under the waves of globalization can lead to various tragic consequences. The study also presents reflections on the necessity of cultivating religious awareness and enlightenment that enable individuals to form scientifically grounded conclusions about religion, its doctrines, directions, and schools, and to maintain the balance between religiosity and secularism. Undeniably, the role of the education system is essential in nurturing a morally mature and well-rounded individual, as education directly influences the development of society, determines future socio-cultural directions, and shapes a generation that is intellectually and morally advanced. INTRODUCTION In the contemporary world, the power and strength of states are increasingly determined by the potential and intellectual capacity of their youth. The upbringing of a morally mature and intellectually capable generation has become one of the most important tasks not only in Uzbekistan but globally. A spiritually developed generation serves as a foundational pillar that determines the future trajectory of the nation. Insufficient attention to education, failure to align the system with social needs, and viewing it as a secondary factor negatively affect societal development and may even lead to decline [1]. In our view, the ethical organization of educational processes and their systematic implementation largely depend on well-designed reforms carried out at the state level. Today, religious education is one of the most important tools for shaping a religious worldview, elevating moral culture, and achieving harmony between religious and secular knowledge. Religious education plays a crucial role in developing correct religious understanding and ensuring the systematic moral and spiritual upbringing of individuals [2]. In this regard, Albert Einstein’s famous statement is relevant: “If religion is without science, it is blind; if science is without religion, it is lame.” In modern Uzbekistan, educating youth in accordance with high moral standards and protecting them from harmful influences is vital for ensuring social stability and further development. MATERIALS AND METHODS STUDY SITE AND CONDITIONS It is well known that religion, through its function of providing spiritual closeness and psychological harmony, is an important factor in societal integration. The development of moral values, their role in society, and their adaptation to contemporary demands are closely tied to religion. Islamic moral values have adapted to different historical and social contexts, evolving their forms of expression. These values shape interpersonal relations and contribute to positive societal changes. Educating the younger generation based on Islamic values plays a significant role in nurturing spiritually strong and devoted individuals. Spiritual maturity encourages youth to be socially active and fosters justice, benevolence, kindness, and compassion within society. From a scientific perspective, maintaining social stability requires ensuring balance between religion and morality. Religious values reinforce moral foundations that are essential for social life. However, in the context of pluralism and secularization, tolerance and respect toward diverse religious and moral beliefs are crucial. SURVEY DATA COLLECTION To identify socio-cultural factors influencing the relationship between religion and morality, a survey was conducted among students. To the question: “In your opinion, what most influences the formation of spiritual development in society?”, the responses were as follows:  69.8% — family  14.9% — educational institutions  3% — press and religious education  3.5% — religious education  4.1% — the internet  3.2% — social environment  1.5% — literature  1% — television Another question — “Which religious traditions and customs are practiced in your family?” — yielded varied responses (Figure 1). A further question asked: “How do moral rules and religious teachings influence personal development?” The results showed that 86.8% of respondents believed these teachings have a positive impact. Negative influence was minimal, while a neutral stance was expressed by 10.1% of participants (Figure 2). Research and inquiry-based educational models in religious education encourage students to think critically about religious concepts. This method motivates learners to ask deeper questions and evaluate religious knowledge more analytically. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION The inclusion of pluralism and diverse religious interpretations in religious education programs in Uzbekistan enables students to develop openness toward different belief systems and value structures. This approach promotes social tolerance and helps prevent religious extremism and marginalization. For a healthy development of the relationship between religion and morality, it is essential to prioritize critical thinking skills, inquiry-based learning, and the promotion of religious pluralism. These strategies contribute to cultivating conscious religious understanding and tolerance within society. As stated, tolerance encompasses “patience, endurance, respect for different views, benevolence, generosity, forgiveness, compassion, and empathy” [3]. The formation of religious pluralism in the public consciousness significantly contributes to national stability. The state plays a vital role in supporting ethical education programs that SCIENCE AND INNOVATION INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC JOURNAL VOLUME 4 ISSUE 11 NOVEMBER 2025 ISSN: 2181-3337 | SCIENTISTS.UZ 104 incorporate religious values while simultaneously promoting secular moral principles. Such an approach bridges the gap between secularism and religion in public ethics. Involving religious scholars in community development initiatives facilitates constructive dialogue on religion and morality. The harmony between religion and morality is strongly dependent on well-implemented reforms in the religious sphere. Today, considerable attention is being paid to the development of religious education in Uzbekistan, and positive changes are rapidly increasing. Significant reforms in the religious-spiritual spheres underscore the importance of developing morally mature individuals. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasizes: “Improving the socio-spiritual environment, enhancing living conditions, and protecting youth from extremist influences are among our most urgent priorities.” [4] The establishment of institutions such as the Center for Islamic Civilization and the International Islamic Academy aims to reveal the humanistic essence of Islam and promote scientific research, conferences, and educational initiatives. The creation of international research centers dedicated to Imam Bukhari, Imam Maturidi, and Imam Termizi strengthens efforts to study the spiritual heritage of great scholars and fosters healthy worldviews in an era of ideological challenges. Religious values, despite their spiritual foundation, are closely intertwined with moral and social issues. One of the central functions of religion is to regulate behavior in ways that reinforce society’s moral foundations. Universal principles such as respect, love for others, honesty, and justice form the moral core of major religions including Islam, Christianity, and Buddhism. CONCLUSION In conclusion, the balance between religious education and moral knowledge plays a crucial role in shaping personal development. Religious and moral education forms the foundation for cultivating a spiritually mature generation. Educating youth in accordance with high moral values is a priority not only for Uzbekistan but for the entire world. Religious education strengthens ethical norms such as faith, kindness, justice, and honesty, integrating them into personal consciousness. Islam and national values—central elements of the spiritual identity of the Uzbek people—are being revived and elevated to the level of state policy. Educational institutions now emphasize patriotism, interethnic harmony, and religious tolerance. Courses on world religions, theology, and the philosophical heritage of great scholars have been introduced. The teachings of Imam Bukhari, Imam Termizi, Imam Maturidi, Ahmad Yassawi, and Bahauddin Naqshband are widely taught as part of the “enlightenment against ignorance” initiative. The balance between religious and moral knowledge fosters spiritually mature, morally upright, and patriotic individuals who contribute to societal progress.
