A quantitative analysis of classes exploring factors that make participants more likely to claim CEcredit Katie Pierce-Farrier,Samantha Nunn, Molly Knapp, Rebecca Brown, Jessi Van Der Volgen OBJECTIVES The Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) offers a variety of classes to support professional development and continuing education of health information professionals. Most classes offer MLA CE credits, which provide proof of attendance, count toward AHIP, and may be used to earn MLA specializations, such as the Consumer Health Information Specialization (CHIS) or the Data Science Specialization (DSS). However, only a fraction of class registrants claim CE. Our objective is to determine which class factors most impact the percentage of registrants that claim MLA CE after the class: specialization type, class format (on-demand or scheduled), and class platform (webinar or Moodle). We hypothesize that credit for MLA specializations will increase the likelihood that people will claim CE. METHODS Registration information is tracked through an NNLM wide platform called CiviCRM. We pulled a list of all registrations between May 1, 2023 and April 30, 2024. MLA sends NNLM a monthly report of all CE claims. CE claims for the same period were complied and compare against registration numbers in Excel. The team ran two sample t-tests assuming unequal variance in Excel. We looked at several factors such as CE type and whether the class counted towards an MLA specialization, class format (webinar or Moodle), and class platform (on-demand or scheduled). KEY RESULTS Non-Cognitive Predictors of Student Success: A Predictive Validity Comparison Between Domestic and International Students AT A GLANCE ●225 classes offered ○116 classes offer MLA specialization credit ○44 didn’t offer any CE credit ●34,350 registrations total ●5,302 MLA CE claims ●153 people register for a class, overall average ●21% of people claimed MLA CE (Average 29 people claim CE per class) DISCUSSION Many MLA specialization require some on-demand classes, which might contribute to why on-demand has a higher claim rate. Scheduled moodle classes have a high attrition rates, which might contribute to lower CE claim rates. Many regions have specialized webinar series that touch on broader health information and health literacy topics. The targeted audiences for our webinars may be less interested in MLA CE. CONCLUSION Credit for specializations did not significantly impact whether participants claimed CE. However, the class format and platform do impact CE claims. People are most likely register for webinars, but are least likely to claim CE for webinars. Participants are most likely to claim CE for on-demand classes, possibly due to their requirements for MLA specializations. We conclude that continuing to offer CE is important for many users, some of whom may be viewing classes at a later date. In the future, NNLM will continue to grow through additional types of CE, including Continuing Nursing Education credit, Certified Health Education Specialists and Certified Public Health workers.
