CINEMA ,THEATRE, MUSEUMS, SPORTS, OUTSTANDING SPORTSMAN OF UZBEKISTAN AND THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO DEVELOPMENT OF SPORTS Jizzakh branch of the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulug’bek The Faculty of Psychology, the department of foreign languages Philology and teaching languages Teshaboyeva Nafisa Zubaydulla qizi [email protected] Student of group 203-24: Tulayeva Malikabonu Erkin qizi Annotation: This article examines the post‑independence reforms in Uzbekistan in the fields of culture and sports. It highlights the development of cinema, theatre, museums, and sports infrastructure, and discusses how these reforms have improved social life, cultural engagement, and national pride. The article also underlines the role of prominent Uzbek athletes in inspiring youth and advancing sports. Key words: Uzbekistan, social reforms, cultural development, cinema, theatre, museums, sports infrastructure, physical culture, youth sport, national athletes, sports history, cultural heritage, post‑independence reforms. One significant sign of cultural reforms is the revival and development of the national film industry. For example, the Tashkent International Film Festival was reestablished in 2021 under the decree aimed at promoting national cinematography. This festival provides a platform for Uzbek filmmakers to present their works nationally and internationally, facilitating cultural exchange and creative growth. Through support for filmmakers, modernization of studios, and encouragement for production of films reflecting Uzbek society, history, and contemporary issues, cinema newjournal.org zenodo.org 2 becomes a medium for cultural expression, national identity consolidation, and social reflection. Theatre and Performing Arts. Theatre too has seen substantial reforms. According to a recent study on national theatre reforms in the independence era, Uzbek theatres have embraced new creative tendencies, combining national heritage with modern performance practices. These reforms have enabled theatres to stage classical Uzbek works, reinterpret traditions in contemporary ways, and introduce audiences — especially youth — to a wide range of dramatic art. The renewed energy in theatre contributes to cultural education and reinforces the importance of art in public life. Museums and Cultural Heritage. The expansion and modernization of museums and galleries is another outcome of Uzbekistan’s cultural reforms. As an example — the Art Gallery of Uzbekistan in Tashkent, established in 2004, represents efforts to institutionalize fine arts exhibition and public access to visual arts. These institutions preserve national heritage, offer exhibitions and educational events, and help citizens (and visitors) explore the country’s history, art, and cultural identity in an accessible way. The growth of museums strengthens collective memory and cultural awareness among new generations. Sports: Infrastructure, Policy, and Mass Engagement. Since independence, sports and physical culture have become a major priority in Uzbekistan. Reforms in this domain include legal and institutional changes, building sports infrastructure, and encouraging mass participation. A recent comprehensive study covering 1991–2025 highlights how sports infrastructure — stadiums, sports complexes, youth sports schools — has expanded across the country, creating opportunities for both recreational and professional sports. Moreover, policies have targeted youth and women’s involvement, sports diplomacy, and integration of physical education into public life. Such reforms have helped produce athletes capable of competing at high international levels, and have fostered a culture of healthy lifestyle among the population. Role of National Athletes and Their Social Impact. The development of sports infrastructure and institutional support has contributed to Uzbekistan producing newjournal.org zenodo.org 3 high‑level athletes who compete internationally, which raises national pride and serves as an inspiration for youth. Through their achievements, athletes help popularize sports, motivate mass participation, and contribute to the country’s image abroad. Their success stories demonstrate the impact of systemic reforms and provide tangible examples of what structured support and personal dedication can achieve. Interconnection of Culture, Sports, and Social Life. The concurrent development of cultural institutions (cinema, theatre, museums) and sports infrastructure shows a holistic approach by the Uzbek state: promoting not just entertainment or leisure, but building a socially and culturally active community. Cultural reforms preserve heritage and foster creativity, while sports reforms encourage health, discipline, and national solidarity. Together, these developments help form a well-rounded social environment, where arts and sports both play crucial roles in shaping identity, values, and public engagement. In conclusion, the social and cultural reforms implemented in Uzbekistan since independence have profoundly transformed the country’s cultural and sports landscape. The modernization of cinema, theatre, and museums has not only preserved the nation’s rich historical heritage but also created dynamic platforms for artistic expression, education, and public engagement. These institutions serve as spaces where citizens, especially youth, can experience creativity, develop cultural awareness, and strengthen their national identity. Simultaneously, the systematic development of sports infrastructure, youth academies, and mass participation programs has played a crucial role in promoting a healthy lifestyle and fostering a spirit of discipline and teamwork among young people. The remarkable achievements of outstanding Uzbek athletes, both nationally and internationally, illustrate the success of these reforms and act as powerful role models for future generations. Overall, Uzbekistan’s integrated approach—combining cultural enrichment and sports development—demonstrates a holistic vision for social progress. By supporting the arts, preserving heritage, and encouraging physical culture, the nation has created a society where education, creativity, health, and civic pride are interlinked. These reforms not only enhance the newjournal.org zenodo.org 4 quality of social life but also inspire citizens to actively contribute to the country’s continued growth and global recognition.
