Title: Constitution of the Virtual Institute of Bioinformatics and Evolution (VIBE) Description: This document outlines the constitution and governance structure of the Virtual Institute of Bioinformatics and Evolution (VIBE), a grassroots community network for bioinformatics researchers in Ireland. The constitution defines the purpose of the organisation, which includes: Creating a forum for the discussion and dissemination of topics related to bioinformatics and evolution. Organising and supporting scientific meetings. Facilitating training and learning opportunities. Alerting members to conferences, events, and employment opportunities. It further details membership eligibility, which is open to any third-level researcher in the field (including students, postdocs, and technical staff) with equal voting rights and no membership fees. The Virtual Institute of Bioinformatics and Evolution (VIBE) Constitution 1: Name The name of the organisation shall be the “Virtual Institute of Bioinformatics and Evolution”, abbreviated as “VIBE”. 2: Purpose The aims of VIBE are to: a. Create a forum for the discussion and dissemination of topics related to bioinformatics and evolution across scientific, academic and commercial research environments. b. Organise and support scientific meetings about bioinformatics and evolution. c. Facilitate training and learning opportunities for researchers in bioinformatics and evolution. d. Facilitate members alerting each other to conferences, events and employment opportunities. 3: Address The address of the Society is the address of the Investigator hosting the forthcoming annual conference. 4: Members The Society shall consist of any third-level researcher in bioinformatics and evolution who wishes to join, including postgraduate students, postdoctoral researchers, staff scientists, technicians, faculty (lecturers and professors), and visiting researchers. All members have equal voting rights. There are no membership fees. 5: Financial resources VIBE is an unincorporated association that has no official financial resources but will assist members through their Institutions in securing funding from public, national or international agencies to promote the aims of VIBE. Members have no personal liability for VIBE. 6: Chairperson The chairperson of VIBE is the faculty member in a third-level institution hosting the forthcoming annual conference. The chairperson will facilitate student and staff VIBE members at that institution in hosting the annual conference in a manner that promotes the aims of VIBE, ensuring the conference is advertised widely in advance of the event, and arranging the conference proceedings such that they integrate the bioinformatics and evolution community across all sections of the membership and institutions. 7: Amendments to the Constitution Amendments may be initiated by the honorary chairperson or by a petition to the honorary chairperson signed by at least ten members. Petitions must be sent at least one month prior to the annual conference. Amendments must be presented at the annual conference and ratified by two-thirds of the members physically present. 8: Dissolution of VIBE Dissolution shall be approved and ratified by a two-thirds majority of the members voting at the annual conference.
