Abstract

This oral presentation, reference PLF-OP-04, was delivered in the Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) session at the IPVS & ESPHM 2024 Congress in Leipzig, Germany. The work focuses on the development of a robust learning model to predict drinking behaviour in growing pigs using retrospective water consumption data from commercial farms. An autoregressive moving average (ARMA) model was applied to account for the autocorrelated structure of hourly water consumption data, incorporating environmental and management covariates as well as seasonal components. Results demonstrate that the model accurately predicts hourly water intake and supports the use of drinking behaviour patterns for real-time health monitoring in pigs. This contribution highlights the role of data-driven approaches in Precision Livestock Farming for improving animal well-being and disease detection.
