The study reveals the inner spiritual experiences of the modern hero, his moral choice and the reasons for resorting to betrayal under the pressure of society. The article examines betrayal not only as a negative phenomenon, but also as a result of conflicts between the individual and society. Comparative-analytical, descriptive and interpretative methods were used in the study. Key words: betrayal motif, war narrative, psychological interpretation, modern Uzbek prose, literary motif analysis, modern literature, the image of the hero, the problem of betrayal, spiritual crisis, moral choice, individual and society, spiritual conflict Introduction: This article analyzes the artistic transformation of the motive of betrayal in modern Uzbek prose. It is argued that in modern prose, betrayal is manifested not only as a moral vice, but also as an artistic manifestation of the spiritual crisis of the individual and the problems of society. In literature, the concept of motive is one of the important poetic units that form the content of a work of art. The motive of betrayal has existed in world and Uzbek literature for a long time, and is often interpreted as a moral problem, a tragic conflict or a situation contrary to loyalty. While in traditional literature, betrayal is presented as a more sharply condemned vice, in modern Uzbek prose this motif is enriched with complex psychological and social factors. Therefore, studying the transformation of the betrayal motif in modern prose is an urgent scientific problem. Methods The research used analytical, comparative-typological and poetic analysis methods of literary studies. Selected works of modern Uzbek prose were studied on the basis of motif analysis. The function of the betrayal motif in the plot, the system of images and the psychology of the hero was determined and compared with the traditional interpretation. Results The analysis shows that in modern Uzbek prose, the motive of betrayal is not limited to a one-sided moral assessment. It is often: a means of expressing the inner suffering and spiritual division of a person, a result of social pressure and spiritual emptiness in society, a source of internal conflict that determines the fate of the hero. In modern works, betrayal is revealed through internal experiences, silence, remorse or self-justification processes rather than external actions. In modern Uzbek prose, the motive of betrayal has gone beyond the traditional framework of “betrayal of the homeland or love” and has become a multi-layered artistic phenomenon that highlights issues of moral choice, internal conflict, social adaptation and personal responsibility. This transformation is closely related to socio-political changes in society, global cultural influences and the complexity of individual consciousness. 1. Transition from traditional to psychological interpretation In classical prose, betrayal is often presented with open accusation and a firm verdict, while in modern works it is depicted as a psychological process. The hero betrays, but this situation is often explained by fear, interest, loneliness or social pressure. As a result, the reader not only condemns the betrayal, but is forced to understand it. 2. Social betrayal and “silent betrayal” In modern prose, “silent betrayal” - that is, betrayal through silence, indifference, indifference, and withdrawal from the truth - has become more common. This situation is especially revealed against the background of corruption, careerism, and injustice. The hero is often not an open enemy, but a person who has not come to terms with his conscience. 3. The motive of self-betrayal An important aspect of the transformation is the emergence of the concept of self-betrayal. This motive serves to deeply reveal personal tragedy in an era of increased individualism. 4. The image of a woman and the interpretation of betrayal In modern prose, the image of a woman is no longer depicted only as a victim of betrayal, but also as a subject who makes a choice. A woman's betrayal is often associated with patriarchal oppression, social inequality, or the pursuit of personal freedom. This frees the motive from one-sided moral judgment. 5. Artistic expression and compositional innovations The motif of betrayal is conveyed through internal monologue, fragmented plot, and open endings. The authors do not draw a clear conclusion; they leave the assessment to the reader. This is an approach typical of modern and postmodern aesthetics. Discussion This transformation of the motive of betrayal is associated with modern literary thought. In today's prose, a person is depicted as a complex spiritual being, and his actions are often explained by social conditions, spiritual decline, or inner emptiness. In this sense, the motive of betrayal also appears not only as an object of condemnation, but also as an object of understanding and analysis. This situation indicates the psychological deepening and renewal of artistic thinking of modern Uzbek prose. Conclusion In conclusion, the motif of betrayal in modern Uzbek prose has undergone a significant transformation. Through this motif, the psyche of the modern hero, the spiritual crisis and the problems of the time are deeply illuminated.
