Evaluation of forage quality in a pea breeding program using a hyperspectral sensing system

Sangjan, Worasit; McGee, Rebecca; Sankaran, Sindhuja

Abstract

The dataset includes the leaf reflectance spectra collected using a spectroradiometer and the associated biomass quality traits from laboratory-based near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) analysis from pea breeding trials. The data is used for analysis in the publication "Evaluation of Forage Quality in a Pea Breeding Program Using a Hyperspectral Sensing System".

1 Evaluation of Forage Quality in a Pea Breeding Program Using a Hyperspectral Sensing System Worasit Sangjana, Rebecca J. McGeeb, Sindhuja Sankarana a Department of Biological Systems Engineering, Washington State University, Pullman, WA, United States b USDA-ARS, Grain Legume Genetics and Physiology Research Unit, Pullman, WA, United States Summary: The dataset includes the leaf reflectance spectra collected using a spectroradiometer (SVC HR-1024i, Spectra Vista Corporation/SVC, Poughkeepsie, NY, USA) with a leaf clip (LC-RP Pro, SVC) in the range of about 350-2500 nm (Sheet 1) and the associated biomass quality traits (Sheets 2 and 3) from laboratory-based near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) analysis. The data are from (i) the 2018–2019 season, an Austrian winter pea advanced yield trial at Genesee, ID (file labeled as 2019_GN_Hyperspectral&GroundReferenceData, total = 45 plots), and (ii) the 2019–2020 season, a forage and cover crop winter pea advanced yield trial at Pullman, WA (file labeled as 2019_GN_Hyperspectral&GroundReferenceData, total = 36 plots). 1. Leaf Reflectance Spectra: From column D to ALI contains the raw reflectance data (Sheet 1) as % (row 3 and higher) without normalization and binning. Each row (from row 3) is the data from one sampling in which one plot was sampled from three plants inside the plot (three replicates). The location, plot number, and replicate are provided in columns A to C, respectively. Row 2 describes the wavelengths in nanometer. 2. Laboratory-Based NIRS (Ground Reference Data): The data were from the Agricultural and Environmental Services Laboratories, The University of Georgia Cooperative Extension, Athens, GA, USA. Each column (from column C) is the biomass quality trait. Each row (from row 3) is the data from each plot. This dataset has two types of biomass quality traits: the first is % as a received basis (Sheet 2), and the second is % dry matter basis (Sheet 3). The location and plot number are provided in columns A and B.
