Today’s educational paradigm emphasizes not only the acquisition of subject-specific knowledge but also the development of practical life skills that enable learners to adapt to real-world challenges, think independently, and demonstrate initiative. In this regard, entrepreneurship education is increasingly viewed as an essential component of general secondary education. Language education, particularly mother tongue instruction, plays a crucial role in shaping learners’ cognitive, communicative, and social competencies. Mother tongue textbooks are not merely linguistic resources; they also serve as powerful tools for transmitting cultural, moral, and socioeconomic values. The texts included in these textbooks reflect various aspects of social life and can effectively contribute to the development of students’ entrepreneurial thinking, problem-solving abilities, and decision-making skills when approached from a competency-based perspective. In recent years, educational reforms have increasingly focused on integrating competency-based approaches into the teaching of all subjects, including language education. This approach prioritizes learners’ ability to apply acquired knowledge in practical situations, encouraging creativity, responsibility, and initiative—key elements of entrepreneurial competence. Therefore, analyzing the content and functional potential of texts in mother tongue textbooks is of significant importance for identifying opportunities to foster entrepreneurial competencies in students. Despite the growing interest in entrepreneurship education, insufficient attention has been paid to the role of mother tongue textbooks in developing entrepreneurial competencies through textual analysis and interpretative activities. This research aims to address this gap by examining how instructional texts can be utilized to enhance students’ entrepreneurial awareness and competencies. The study explores the linguistic, pragmatic, and pedagogical features of textbook texts and highlights their potential in supporting the development of entrepreneurship-related skills within the framework of language education. Main Part Entrepreneurial competence is recognized as an essential component of modern education, reflecting the need to prepare learners for active participation in social and economic life. It includes a combination of cognitive, practical, and personal qualities such as initiative, creativity, critical thinking, responsibility, and the ability to make independent decisions. In contemporary pedagogical discourse, the development of entrepreneurial competence is not limited to economics-related subjects but is increasingly integrated into humanities, particularly language education. Mother tongue instruction provides a favorable environment for cultivating such competencies through meaningful communication and text-based learning activities. Mother tongue textbooks play a significant role in shaping students’ worldview and social awareness. The texts included in these textbooks often reflect real-life situations, moral dilemmas, social relationships, and economic activities that are closely connected to entrepreneurial values. Through careful selection and interpretation of texts, learners are exposed to models of behavior that emphasize diligence, responsibility, innovation, and cooperation. As a result, students begin to associate language learning not only with linguistic accuracy but also with practical life applications. Text analysis in mother tongue lessons contributes to the development of entrepreneurial thinking by engaging students in

When learners analyze the actions of characters, evaluate outcomes, and identify cause-and-effect relationships, they develop problem-solving and decision-making skills. Such analytical activities encourage students to consider alternative solutions and predict potential consequences, which are fundamental aspects of entrepreneurial competence. Moreover, interpretative discussions based on texts foster independent thinking and the ability to express and justify personal opinions. From a pragmatic perspective, many textbook texts contain implicit meanings related to economic behavior, social responsibility, and success in professional life. By identifying and interpreting these meanings, students learn to perceive language as a tool for understanding real-world processes. This approach strengthens their ability to transfer linguistic knowledge to practical contexts, thereby supporting the goals of competency-based education. The integration of entrepreneurial content into text analysis also enhances learners’ motivation by demonstrating the relevance of language learning to everyday life. The effective development of entrepreneurial competencies through mother tongue instruction requires the use of interactive and learner-centered teaching methods. Problem-based tasks, discussions, role-playing, and project work based on textbook texts encourage active participation and initiative. Such methods create opportunities for students to collaborate, negotiate ideas, and take responsibility for their learning outcomes. Consequently, the language classroom becomes a space not only for developing communicative competence but also for nurturing entrepreneurial attitudes and skills. Overall, the analysis of texts in mother tongue textbooks demonstrates significant potential for developing students’ entrepreneurial competencies. By applying a competency-based approach and focusing on the functional and educational value of texts, teachers can contribute to the formation of learners who are linguistically competent, socially responsible, and capable of independent and innovative thinking. Conclusion In conclusion, the study demonstrates that mother tongue textbooks possess significant potential for developing entrepreneurial competencies in students when approached through a competency-based educational framework. The texts included in these textbooks serve not only as linguistic material but also as valuable resources for fostering initiative, critical thinking, responsibility, and independent decision-making. By analyzing and interpreting text content in relation to real-life situations, learners are encouraged to develop practical skills that are essential for active participation in modern socioeconomic life. The findings of the research highlight the importance of integrating entrepreneurial elements into language education in a purposeful and systematic manner. Text-based activities that promote problem-solving, evaluation of alternatives, and reflection on outcomes contribute to the formation of entrepreneurial thinking and attitudes. Such an approach enhances students’ motivation and demonstrates the relevance of mother tongue education beyond purely linguistic objectives. Interactive, learner-centered methods based on textbook texts create opportunities for collaboration, creativity, and initiative, thereby supporting the holistic development of learners. Incorporating entrepreneurial competence development into mother tongue instruction contributes to the preparation of socially responsible, proactive, and adaptable individuals capable of meeting the demands of contemporary society.
