Martín Chirino Foundation Castillo de la Luz (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1998–2013) Contribution by Mauro Herrero (Project team): comprehensive survey of the historic building in an early phase of CAD adoption for heritage; project drawings used as a design-thinking tool; technical support to clearly separate the new intervention from the historic fabric, ensuring accuracy and conceptual coherence despite scarce reliable documentation and building complexity. The project by Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos on a 15th-century fortress transformed into a contemporary cultural venue, was awarded through a public tender and implemented in phases until completion as the Martín Chirino Foundation. The proposal removes the earth infill between the original tower and perimeter walls, restores the primary volume, adds a partly buried pavilion and light footbridges, achieving a respectful dialogue between heritage and contemporary architecture.
