This study investigates the influence of organizational factors such as leadership, organizational culture, interpersonal relationships, recognition, and opportunities for professional growth on job satisfaction of librarians working in unaided colleges affiliated to the University of Mumbai in Mumbai and Thane District. A sample of 55 librarians (30 female and 25 male) participated in the study. A structured questionnaire using a 5-point Likert scale was administered to collect primary data. Results show that organizational factors have a significant and positive impact on job satisfaction. Recognition, opportunities for professional growth, and leadership were identified as the strongest predictors. The findings emphasize the need for supportive management practices and a congenial organizational culture to improve satisfaction and retention among librarians. Keywords: Job satisfaction, Organizational factors, Leadership, Librarians, Professional growth, Workplace recognition. Introduction: Librarians in higher education institutions contribute to teaching, learning, and research by providing access to information resources, facilitating academic services, and supporting digital learning environments. Their efficiency and motivation depend largely on their job satisfaction. Job satisfaction is shaped by not only individual characteristics but also internal organizational factors, including leadership, institutional culture, interpersonal relationships, workplace recognition, and professional development opportunities. In unaided colleges, where salaries, working conditions, and institutional policies often differ from aided institutions, understanding the determinants of job satisfaction becomes even more important. This study focuses specifically on librarians in unaided colleges affiliated with the University of Mumbai. Review of Literature Leadership plays a fundamental role in developing trust and motivating employees. Supportive leadership practices positively influence job satisfaction (Robbins & Judge, 2019). Organizational culture also shapes employee attitudes by establishing norms and expectations (Luthans, 2011). Recognition and rewards are major motivating factors that enhance job satisfaction and commitment (Koustelios, 2001). Positive interpersonal relationships within the workplace further contribute to a healthy work environment and psychological well-being (Robbins & Judge, 2019). Professional development opportunities, especially in rapidly evolving information environments, strengthen employee motivation and future career prospects (Sharma & Kumar, 2020). Objectives of the Study The primary objective of this study is: To examine the influence of organizational factors (leadership, organizational culture, interpersonal relationships, recognition, and opportunities for professional growth) on librarians’ job satisfaction. Methodology Research Design A descriptive survey design was adopted. Population and Sample The population included librarians working in unaided colleges affiliated with the University of Mumbai in Mumbai and Thane districts. A sample of 55 librarians was selected using purposive sampling. Female: 30 Male: 25 Research Instrument A structured questionnaire with 5 organizational factor dimensions and job satisfaction was developed on a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree). Data Analysis: Table 1 — Gender Distribution of Respondents Gender Frequency Percentage Female 30 54.55% Male 25 45.45% Total 55 100% Table 2 — Mean and SD of Organizational Factors and Job Satisfaction Organizational Factor Mean SD Leadership 4.09 0.60 Organizational Culture 3.92 0.63 Interpersonal Relationships 4.02 0.61 Recognition 3.85 0.67 Professional Growth 3.97 0.62 Overall Job Satisfaction 3.98 0.59 Table 3 — Correlation Between Organizational Factors and Job Satisfaction. Professional growth opportunities and institutional recognition emerged as dominant motivators, while weak leadership practices and limited supportive culture were the primary sources of dissatisfaction. The findings emphasize the need for colleges to reinforce professional development, adopt participative leadership, promote positive work culture, and ensure recognition of librarians’ contribution. Improving these organizational elements will significantly enhance job satisfaction, performance, and retention of LIS professionals. References: 1. Dutta, S., & Barman, R. (2020).
