Gema Climent Camacho Comisaria de la exposición TRANSIT 11 TRANSIT This is a publication titled ‘Transit: the graphic between Eastern and Western Worlds.’ It presents the content of a selection of works that exposes from their own plurality, new alternatives in which the artist uses different techniques and aesthetic elements to send us messages through their images. The exhibition is made up of fourteen professional artists specializing in the International Panorama of Contemporary Engraving, presenting the most recent innovations in the world of printmaking. It is a group made up by seven Spanish and seven Taiwanese printmakers called ‘Transit: the graphic between Eastern and Western Worlds:’ Rock Shen Chin Yuan / Mingyi Chou / Kao Chun-Ying / Gema Climent Camacho / Rita del Rio Rodríguez / Fernando Evangelio Rodríguez / Pilar García Abril / Manuel Fernando Mancera Martínez / Manuel Manzorro Pérez / Pan Meng-Yao / Liao Shiou-Ping / Lee Shu Chuan / Lin Shue-Ching / Chung You-Hui. All of them come together to promote the original engraving from a creative, artistic, cultural and social point of view, with new and traditional technical methods, both belonging to the eastern and western world of experimental print. They create a formative, instructive and illustrative enhancement that links both cultures. These are artists who nourish themselves on the influences of great Western classical masters: Dürer, Rembrandt, Goya and Picasso, as well as Easterners: Utamaro, Hokusai or Hiroshige. This flow of ideas between the two cultures, helps the exhibition develop a current world view of printmaking with new and suggestive techniques, in addition to the already well-known traditional ones such as woodcut, photogravure, etching, aquatint, collagraph or embossing among many others. The exhibition opens to the public from June 2 to 30 2017 in the Institution Madariaga Foundation, Contemporary Museum of Modern Art in Seville. It has a long and prestigious cultural program. For this exhibit, it presents a total of 42 graphic works, each artist participating with three of his or her latest creations. The exhibition will have a great impact at international level because it will be exposed in an itinerant form in Taiwan during the month of July. With its publication, this catalog consolidates the interest that exists with this form of expression in Modern society, all done from a cultural, social and collector point of view. Therefore, the quality of this exhibition is destined to enrich and unify in a cultural and artistic manner the world of Printmaking existent between artists of eastern and western worlds. R.
