Palaeoclimatology of the eastern Canary Islands

Abstract Three levels with nests of Anthophora and molluscs shells (Subulinidae and Helicidae) in the dunes of Fuerteventura island are radiocarbon dated at 23 600+ or -550, 15 000+ or -200 and 9800+ or -140 BP. These species are xerophilous but their presence however implies a cessation of eolian processes and the existence of vegetation fixing the dunes. Those ages correspond to the climatic chronology known for the Sahara
